Facts about Sage

  • Breed: Siamese
  • Color: White (Mostly)
  • Age: Young
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Sage is a beautiful Siamese mix. She is sassy and vocal. Sage prefers to be in control of her surroundings, she would be best as the only cat. She may tolerate a dog as long as it was cat friendly and left her alone. She had a rough start to her life. Having kittens at a young age, not having the proper nutrients to support her body during her pregnancy. Which left her underweight, thinning fur and her health in very poor condition. The Humane Society staff has worked very hard keeping her stress level low and supplying her with a proper diet. She is now spayed, vaccinated, and dewormed, gaining weight not to mention looking wonderful. Sage would love a home with older children, a sunny window to relax at while chattering at the birds. She is a very loving young girl, and will make a great companion for the right family.

*Sage's adoption fee is $75. All HSSCM cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.*

About Humane Society of South Central Michigan

About Our Shelter...

About Us:
We are the area's nonprofit advocate, sanctuary and source for companion animals since 1887.

Our Mission:
-to protect animals from suffering and cruelty
-to provide safe and responsible care for unwanted or abused companion animals
-to enhance the lives of animals and people through education, adoption, and foster care.

We believe in second chances at the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. Our service area includes all of Calhoun County and parts of Kalamazoo, Barry and Branch counties. We keep animals as long as it takes to find a good home for adoption once the animal passes temperament testing and is checked for good health. The Watkins Road shelter cares for up to 100 animals a day, and adopts out more than 500 animals a year. Countless area residents use the Society’s animal care, adoption and education programs each year. The Humane Society is overseen by a board of directors. We do not receive any government or tax dollars, or national humane organization funding. Our services are made possible by people in our community who care about homeless cats and dogs - people like you!

The Humane Society of South Central Michigan values:
-The ethical and humane treatment of animals
-Its role as a shelter for animals that suffer from pain, fear, and neglect
-Community accountability for the welfare of its animals
-Responsible stewardship of our resources
-Community involvement to achieve our goals
-Education about responsible pet ownership
-The joy of sharing a life with animal companions

Our Adoption Process...

All adoptions begin with an application. The process varies slightly depending on if you are wanting to adopt a dog or a cat.

DOGS: If you are interested in adopting a dog, you need to first fill out an adoption application. Applications are available on our website under the 'adoption' tab or at our shelter on Watkins Road. After your application is processed and approved, you will go into an adoption counsel with one of our staff members. During your counsel, we will talk to you about the dog that you are interested in, answer any questions you may have, and let you spend some one-on-one time with the dog. If you have another dog in the home, we will also do a dog-to-dog match-up before you fill out the adoption paperwork. Home visits are occasionally required, depending on the dog. Adoption fees range from $100 - $300. All HSSCM dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested, dewormed, and on heartworm/flea prevention.

CATS: If you are interested in adopting a cat, you need to first fill out an adoption application. Applications are available on our website under the 'adoption' tab or at our shelter on Watkins Road. After your application is processed and approved, you wil go into an adoption counsel with one of our staff members. During your counsel, we will talk to you about the cat that you are interested in and answer any questions you may have. Our cat room is open to the public. After the adoption counsel, you can fill out the adoption paperwork. Adult cats are $75 to adopt; kittens under 6 months are $100. All HSSCM cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, fiv/felk tested, and dewormed.
