Basil's Story...
Hi there! My name is Basil. My siblings and I were rescued from a life outdoors by some very nice people. Now I have my own bed in a great foster home, but I’m ready to find my forever home.
I am the adventurer in the family. There isn’t a room in the house that I haven’t explored or a cat tree that I haven’t climbed. My foster parents have a lot of toys to play with, but I can’t decide which one is my favorite, so I take turns playing with everything!

Even though playing is awesome, my favorite thing to do is curl up next to my foster parents and fall asleep. They give me all the belly rubs I want!

Do you have a home with plenty of toys and people to pet me? My bags are packed and ready to go!

If you'd like to meet me, please email to setup a visit. Don't forget to tell them you want to meet Basil!

If you're not sure which cat you're interested in or are just beginning to search for a companion, our adoption coordinators can help! Just fill out a short questionnaire at: that will help us match you with our wonderful cats then visit us at our Adoption Stand at West Broad Petco (next to Trader Joe's) every Saturday from 11:00 to 3:00.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Basil, a Richmond Domestic Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Richmond, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair kitten from a breeder in Richmond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Richmond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Richmond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Richmond paves the way for another one to be saved.
