My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Max is a 9 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 127 pounds but should lose about 20 of those pounds.. Max has excellent house manners and has had free roam of the house for years. He will retrieve but does not bring it back. He loves to walk and gets very excited at the beginning but settles down quickly. An EZ Walk harness is recommended because he is a big guy and can pull. When he sees other dogs he barks in excitement, but gets along fine with other dogs that he meets. Max is not a fan of thunderstorms or vacuums. He also does not care for squeaky toys. No cat history. . Max is approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (10/5): Max had quite the weekend at his foster home. He met his Foster Grandparents, who were visiting for the weekend. After a few cautious sniffs, Max and Foster G&G were best buds. He was happy to cuddle and receive the abundance for ear scratches they offered. Max also napped happily through the DIY construction project we were working on and wasn't bothered by any of the loud noises. He made a few more doggie friends in the park on our walks, and even happily pranced around when the resident dog tried to egg him on to play ball with her. Max has easily slipped into our routine and continues to be a joy to foster.

Update (9/27)Max #5 had a wonderful weekend with his foster family. We went on walks, took afternoon naps with FM, FD and the resident canine, and even met a puppy!!!! On Saturday morning, a 5 month old black lab puppy stopped on his walk, laid down, and happily waited for Max to walk over. As Max got closer, they sniffed noses, then the puppy flipped over and gave Max his belly. Max proceeded to sniff his belly and even gave it a little lick. (I almost died from the cuteness!!) Puppy then jumped around and tried to climb on Max. Max sweetly and gently sniffed around the puppy, got pets from the puppy's dad, and was not bothered by any of the silliness. If you are looking for a sweet pup who loves to cuddle and be loved on, Max is your boy!!

Update (9/21): Max's Musings: Hi everyone, Max here. Foster Mom said she's told you about me a bit, but now it's my turn. I'm Max and boy oh boy do I LOVE the couch! The couch is my best friend. I like to sleep there, and cuddle there, and sleep and cuddle with foster mom there. It's pretty much my favorite thing. Except for maybe taking walks. I also really like taking walks. FM and FD like to walk me and the tiny yellow one around the park together and we get to sniff the grass and pee on those tall things with leaves. It's great! I'm pretty mellow on our walks, but every once in a while I see those gray things with fluffy tails, and I really, really want to go get one. FM has to hold me and say "stay" and I try to listen, I really, really try, but sometimes I make FM come with me over to the tall thing with leaves so I can try to catch the fluffy. I'm always a good boy when I'm at the house and on my couch. I don't touch anything that isn't mine, and FM and FD trust me to be out when they aren't home. I also don't talk a lot in the house. Sometimes I'll yell to FM and FD to let them know when there is a two leg walker in front of the house and I can see them out the window, but then they leave and I'm quiet again. FM says I'm a little chunky, whatever that means, so we are doing lots of walks and eating healthy food to help me get to my "beach body". I'm feeling a lot better and it's so much easier to walk now that I'm losing my chunky. Just 10 more pounds to go!

Update (9/18): Magnificent Max is now how he is referred to at his foster home. Max is an easy going boy who is happy to take walks outside and snuggle up on the couch for a nice long nap. He really enjoys when you stare longingly into his eyes, pet his head and tell him how much you love him. If you give him a kiss on the nose, he will give you a gentle lick right back. Even the resident dog, who is very particular about her friends, has started to take a liking to Max, and laid down next to him last night. Max is totally house trained and can be trusted to be left out un-attended. Although Max is 9, you can still see his happy, silly, puppy at heart shine through when you call his name and he trots over proudly to get pets. He loves his foster parents and will check in on them as they are doing things around the house, but is happy to also hang out on his own. He can even help you with your computer work if needed.

Max came back to Lab Rescue as his adopter passed away and her husband is handicapped. They loved Max very much!

Update (9/8): Max has lost some weight and is down to 118 pounds. He is a big guy who will do best in a quiet setting where teenagers and friends aren't coming and going. He seems to be nervous around tall men, so these men will need to sit on the floor and let him approach them. Otherwise, he's a loving pup and he certainly doesn't look or act like a 9 year old Lab. This boy has energy.

Update (8/31): Max is doing great! He is the biggest Lab I have ever seen. He is just a big love-bug. Max is great with my kids and became fast friends with my Golden. He may be 9, but he loves to play!
