My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We know it's a long shot that someone out there would adopt this dynamic duo together, and we will certainly consider applications on them separately, but wow, if we could find the perfect home where they could stay together it would be amazing. They are very bonded. They came into rescue from a home where they were living outside, receiving no veterinary care and we're running the neighborhood. Their rough times have cemented their bond together. Kevin is a 9-month-old we're estimating his birthday as 01/01/2015), American Bulldog Mix, male. He is as sweet and patient and gentle as the day is long. He's fantastic with children and gets along great with other dogs. We suspect he's OK with cats, but he hasn't been cat tested. If we have a potential forever home that includes kitty cats, we'll do the test. Kevin is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations and heart worm negative. Kevin weighs about 60 pounds. Shimmer is a 4-month-old (we're estimating her birthday as 05/01/2015) Dachshund/Beagle mix, female. She's sassy, energetic, courageous and cuddly. She's good with children, other dogs and cats. Shimmer will probably weigh about 20 pounds when she is full grown. A combined adoption fee of $500 will cover the dynamic duo if they find a home together with an anonymous sponsor covering the other costs to try keep the two together. If adopted separately, the standard adoption fee of $450 applies. If you're interested in the pair, or in Kevin or Shimmer separately, please email today for an adoption application!

Please, you MUST visit the following link BEFORE emailing for further information. If you'd like to find out more information about our adoption procedure or to apply for this dog visit http://www.poochesonthemove.net/dixie-pet-underground.html

Or e-mail adoptions@dixiepetunderground.org to request an adoption application, or visit our website at www.dixiepetunderground.org.

Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.

Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog or puppy at the time of adoption.

The adoption fee is $450 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area.

Our dogs and puppies are delivered via a USDA-certified van transport and receive an Interstate Health Certificate -- issue by a licensed, accredited veterinarian -- no more than 10 days before the dog or puppy leaves rescue.

All of our dogs and puppies come into rescue from the "death row" of animal shelters in the south, or are owner surrenders or strays who were "pound bound" before coming into rescue. Adopting a dog or puppy from the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad means you are truly part of a partnership to save the life of the dog or puppy that you welcome into your family.

Our dogs and puppies are fostered at our rescue in Tennessee, meaning that it isn't possible to meet the dog or puppy before adoption. Our adoption counselor works with you to do everything possible to ensure that there is a good match between the family and the dog. We have had several hundred dogs adopted using this process and most of the time, it results in happy puppies and happy people.

If for any reason an adoption is not successful, the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad will work with the adopter to find the best possible solution for the dog and the adopting family.

We can provide contact information for adopters in your area who can tell you about their experience partnering with the Underground Railroad to save the life of a dog and make the animal a part of their family.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to find the right dog for your family!
