My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweet boy arrived on September 5th. Griffin is 2 years of age and weighs approx. 46 pounds. He is fostered with other dogs. Here is what our foster mom has to say about this dog: What a cutie! Griffin is an adorable gentleman so far. When he first came to our home last night, he was a bit cautious, but extremely sweet. He met our dogs and exhibited superb doggie manners. He came inside and immediately melted our hearts by snuggling with us. Once he took a little nap and became acclimated to his surroundings, he ate. He allowed me to touch his face and body while eating and showed no signs of aggression. After a long day, we took him to is crate. He entered his crate without any complaint and slept soundly through the night without a peep.

UPDATE: This morning when we woke up, Griffin was excited to go outside and play. He chased a ball and played nicely with our other dogs. Although he likes other dogs, he cares more for human attention and was soon sitting next to me on the deck. After playing and eating, Griffin had a bath. He was a great boy. He allowed us to pick him up and scrub him everywhere without any objections. After bathing and relaxing for a bit, we went for a short walk. He walks nicely on a leash and does not pull. He does like to sniff his surroundings, but happily follows you when it is time to move on. So far, Griffin seems to be a low-energy dog that loves to be pet, especially on his belly, and will be perfect for anyone looking for a loyal, loving, gentle companion. It may change a bit when he settles in but that is what we have for now.

UPDATE: Griffin is such a cutie and he is learning our household rules daily. We are working on basic commands as he does not know any. He responds well to affection rewards over food rewards right now. Today, we worked with Griffin on a leash. He pulled when we first set out on his walk, but after a few corrections he settled in and walked much better. I tried running with Griffin, however he did not seem very interested and lagged behind me a bit. After a walk, Griffin was given breakfast. He does eat, but is not a big eater. Again, he showed NO signs of aggression when eating and I was able to touch him and my dogs walked around him without a problem. After eating, I had to do my grad school homework and Griffin was a great, loyal companion. He laid down nicely and put his chin on my legs, happily accepting a pet and rolling over on his belly from time to time. Griffin loves when you speak to him and wags his tail with joy and excitement throughout the day. Griffin enjoys chewing a bone.. Mid-day we went outside and Griffin chased a ball and ran around the yard. He again played nicely with my dogs, but happily chased the ball by himself when they went inside. When it was time for sleep, Griffin went into his crate without a problem and slept through the night. Griffin is a mild-mannered, sweetheart that is an absolute joy to be around.

UPDATE: Griffin continues to show us what a good boy he is and as he is getting more comfortable we are finding out new things about this cutie. He loves to run outside, but he is just as content relaxing chewing a NYLA bone with my husband and I. He loves a good belly rub and human affection. Also, he met my cats for the first time and showed no signs of aggression. As a matter of fact, we laughed because he was rather disinterested. Griffin has also started to sleep in a dog bed and he absolutely loves it. (He even goes into our room to take a nap on the bed from time to time) He sleeps in his crate and in the dog bed soundly throughout the night.

This animal is currently fostered in a private home. Our rescue is 100% foster home based. We do not have a shelter or kennel. They are cared for by a loving family until adopted. Each pup has had their first vet exam, a shot, and de-worming, etc We make sure they have no fleas prior to going into our foster homes. They are fostered out of the shelter at least two weeks or more prior to adopting to monitor health. We take their care seriously! Please note that the adoption appointments will be scheduled after your application is approved. Once adopted, feel free to change the dog's name. You do not have to keep the name listed in this post.

All dogs over 6 months are spayed/Neutered, rabie shot, heartworm tested, parvo distemper shot, and dewormed. IF YOU ADOPT a pup and live in the State of New Jersey we do have low cost spaying and neutering at very affordable prices. Kindly inquire upon an approved application. We also have an affordable program for out of state adopters.

We also offer low cost micro-chipping! For a low fee of only 20.00 we will have your dog microchipped. You will be able to register the microchip for a low cost fee of only 10.99 at the time of the adoption appointment. The 10.99 fee is a ONE time registration fee. The microchip is for the lifetime of the dog. You have the ability to update the contact information at NO cost. You will also have a one year membership to Home Again. This is a big savings for you.

***** If you're interested in fostering we could always use the help to save more animals. A crate, food, and medical care are provided. The animals are picked up in West Milford, NJ and brought back here for adoption. The time commitment is two to two and a half weeks. Please email letting us know what town you live in and we will forward information to you. *****

Sheryl's Den has teamed up with Petfirst Health care in an effort to offer pet insurance for your adopted family member. If you wish, you can enroll once you adopt. Your coverage will begin following your activation. The first 30 days are free! There is no cost to the adopter for this 30-day protection (This program is available in all US states and Washington DC, but not NY at this time) The 30-day coverage plan ensures the pets adopted are covered for accidents and illnesses. This plan provides $1,000 aggregate/ $500 per-incident limit of accident and illness protection. It reimburses 100% of vet bills after a $50 per-incident deductible. To activate the insurance, pet parents must call 1-855-710-7387. The insurance is not active until the adopter activates it, and is not retroactive to the date of the adoption. Once their insurance is active, they use the veterinarian of their choice and submit their bills for reimbursement, which PetFirst processes in as little as two weeks. Adopters have the option to extend or upgrade their coverage at the time of activation.
