My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Max!

Max was surrendered to a local animal control office about a month ago. When SDR rescued him he was very timid and aloof, but within a very short time he warmed up and became very happy and submissive with his foster mom. He loves to play with other dogs, including young puppies in his foster home, and is very gentle with them.

He has a strong desire to please his human master. Max, however, is very protective of his master and their home and will bite perceived intruders. He was not neutered until this past month, so some of this protective aggression may be due to his early life. He is very smart and a happy boy, but needs some training and TLC.

On his first day in his SDR foster home he watched his fellow furbabies use the doggie door and quickly became an expert level user himself. He is estimated to be about 3 years old and is about 25lbs; his coat is a beautiful dark chocolate color with caramel colored markings on his legs and on his very expressive face. He has a cute dark tail that curls up and has a light streak on the bottom side and he wags it a lot.

When he came to SDR he needed to gain a little weight. He is now a healthy weight and is very active and physically strong. He is a frantic eater and will try to take the food of the more passive dogs, but his foster mom can take food from him and he has not bitten the hand that feeds him.

Max would love a home where he will be loved and cuddled and can share his life with his master. He loves to nestle in next to his human at bedtime and to occasionally sit on her lap and be held. Because of his protective instincts Max will need a firm, but gentle, dominating master that is not afraid to assert his or her authority when needed. Max will need some training and diligence to manage his protective nature. Max has a strong sense of guilt and gets visibly upset and submissive when verbally admonished.

Max is ready to find a furever home where he will receive the love and attention she deserves and desires. He has been neutered, is current on his shots and is heart-worm negative and would make a great guard dog.
