My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.
Benji is an adorable two year old, 8 pound yorkie Chihuahua mix who is now ready for adoption after treatment for a broken leg. His family was unable to keep him once they had a baby, so he is a foster home having a great time waiting to be adopted. This little guy was raised with Siamese cats and he actually meows, although now that he is living in with dogs in his foster home he has learned to bark—but, he isn’t a noisy dog. Benji will do best in a home with gentle respectful kids who are 10-12 due to his size and to prevent any reinjury to his leg. He is used to someone coming and going throughout the day and will not do well with his people being gone for a long workday. Benji is house trained, crate trained, great with other dogs and cats, and is just a special, charming, funny little boy. Benji is with Happy Hound Rescue, a 501c3 all volunteer rescue and is in a foster home. He is neutered, had a full dental, is current on all shots, worming, and he has a HomeAgain microchip. His adoption fee is $400 due to vet bills of $1500 to care for his leg.
