My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

1 yr old tan & blonde wire hair

Hi! I’m Jerry – a 1 yr old, tan and blonde wirehair doxie man! I’m small standard sized, approximately 14.5 lbs of pure handsomeness! My foster mom says I am scheduled for neutering on Friday, whatever that means, and then I will be ready to find a nice family of my own! Wahoo!  I know what you’re thinking – it’s not very often that a gorgeous, young wirehair dachshund like me enters rescue but you see, I have had a pretty rough start to life! My friend Ben and I were surrendered to CDR by someone who used us solely for breeding so this whole “being a dog” thing is kind of new to me! I enjoy my toys, treats and food. I love long walks, although I am still trying to figure this what exactly a leash is! Like a typical doxie I’ll put my nose to the ground and am up for any adventure you throw my way! Human attention is awesome – two of my favourite things are hugs and lap time! I promise I will give you tons of kisses and always greet you with my tail a waggin! I do tend to bark a bit at strangers but settle down quickly when I realize they mean to harm. Oh and I like other dogs too, as long as they are respectful of my personal space and you could maybe convince me that cats are OK if your cat has lived around other dogs before and knows how to deal with us canine creatures! My big brown eyes are sure to melt your heart and I would love a family of my own for Christmas, I hope it’s with you! – Jerry

Jerry is very handsome – wirehair dachshunds are rare in North America, let alone in rescue! Jerry has more of a dominant personality; he is a happy go-lucky boy that will require some fine tuning, given his unfortunate upbringing. He’s young and eager to please so those are two things that definitely work to his advantage. His housetraining and crate training are a work in process. He gets along well with other dogs but they need to be respectful of his personal space, cat savy dogs would also be fine with Jerry. He is vocal when someone comes to the door or a stranger enters the house but settles quickly. If you have the time and patience to work with sweet Jerry I can promise you he will make a wonderful companion and is totally worth it! Please consider showing Jerry what being a family pet is all about!
