Here's what the humans have to say about me:
CHESTER: 1 Year Old Male Neutered Black Lab / Mix 80 Pounds
About a month ago Lab Rescue was contacted from the Ukiah shelter to see if we would take Charlie and Chester. We said we would take them but the owner can and bailed them out for $900. In two weeks the two were out roaming the streets again and the shelter said they would not let them go back to the owners. (They were not neutered and they owners did not have a secure fence so they thought it was great fun to roam around the neighborhood looking for female dogs.) The owners told the Ukiah shelter the dogs were lab/ Catahoula mixes - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catahoula_Cur.
From the trainer who has Chester: Being only 10 months old and not receiving any training until now, Chester had no leash skills or manners when he arrived. Thankfully he is a sweet and young black lab mix who is eager to learn and learning is just what he’s been doing! Chester is now crate trained and can do most basic obedience commands. He is still a puppy though and will need lots of supervision to continue learning all his new skills. Chester did escape a few times with his previous owners and his dog brother and has learned to look for weak spots in the fence, so he will also need to be supervised outside. Chester loves to play with other dogs and would love to have play dates or attend doggie daycare. He still needs work on his off-leash skills and his ability to focus for long periods of time. He is such a happy guy that staying on ‘downs’ with distractions is a tough task but with the right owner he has plenty of ability to continue perfecting these skills. Chester would not do well with young toddlers as he may knock them down. He has been curious of cats but hasn’t chased any. If you are looking for a young and active dog to exercise, train, and bring into your family this is the guy!
They love to play ball, love to swim and do get excited in the car so we would suggest a tie down. They do not have any issues with other dogs.
Chester has all his shots, he is microchipped, heartworm negative and neutered.
He is located in the Santa Rosa area.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
