Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET BONGO
THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING ONLY. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS DOG IS NOT AT OREGON DACHSHUND RESCUE, INC. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT Alina at alinajgibitz@gmail.com or by phone at 425-275-3075.
BONGO is a cool (see driving photo) 3.5 year old smooth black and tan Dachshund/Beagle mix. He is smart and a fast learner. He loves to give affection but also needs his space. In the past few months (after being rescued), he has lived with a family and has progressed by leaps and bounds. He is house trained, loose leash trained (doesn't pull), crate trained and does well in the car. BONGO even gets along with cats and enjoys playing with them (in a good way, not your usual dog playing with cats kind of way). BONGO is a great dog and will make a lovely companion for the right family. He is sensitive and caring. He loves to snuggle and let you know he is there for you (if you're upset, he will come lay by you and give you comfort). With that said, BONGO will do best in a doxie savvy family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and NO children.
This is the ODR, Inc. transparency piece...BONGO suffers from anxiety and a general lack of trust which seem to be left over from his pre-rescue life. When under stress or afraid, he has fear-bitten. BONGO needs a quiet life with a Doxie savvy family where he can learn to trust and relax enough to overcome his fear biting. He has learned so much while in foster care already, we are confident that the right family is out there to help him continue to reach his true potential. Could you be that calm, loving, forever doxie savvy family that BONGO is searching for?
Like all Dachshunds, BONGO is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, BONGO needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
