Here's what the humans have to say about me:
THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING ONLY. THIS DOG IS NOT AT OREGON DACHSHUND RESCUE, INC. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT Christine at elektra@thelawlers.org.
Meet Sweet Little Dixie, a 4-year old, smooth, black, female Dachshund-Rat Terrier mix. While small on stature, Dixie is big on personality. She loves retrieving balls, climbing trees, chasing water streams, going for walks and rides in the car. She LOVES the car. And when she runs, she bounds like a jack rabbit. Although she will be checked out by the ODR, Inc vet to be sure, DIXIE seems in good general health. She is spayed, house trained, leash trained, crate and car trained. DIXIE has been to basic training and knows how to sit, stay, come, lie down, crate up and go potty on command. DIXIE is excellent with people, kids included, so we believe she will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (retired/work from home) and older children (over age 12) who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. Sweet DIXIE is looking for a forever family where she can be the only pet, or possibly a family with a neutered male doxie. She doesn’t do so well with other female dogs and we’re not sure about cats.
Like all Dachshunds, DIXIE is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, DIXIE needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
