My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

3-7-16-Cooper is doing great and is hoping his special forever home will come along soon.

UPDATE. Cooper continues to do well in his foster home. His weight is good, he is getting stronger, he is loving with his foster parents
He has a very high prey drive and will not come when called, if he is tracking a critter or fence running with the neighbor dog. Foster mom has to go get him and make him come in. He needs a fenced yard, so he won't run off hunting something.

Cooper is very active and bouncy, bites the air when excited and races around with excitement. and he is very mouthy, as are many St. Poodles. Small children could easily be hurt, so we are looking for a home with no children under the age of 16.

UPDATE! Cooper continues to learn how to be a canine good citizen. He plays rough, that is just who he is, so needs a playmate who can take it. He will be fine as an only dog, if family is willing to give him the attention he needs and deserves. He is better in the car and if he starts to bark, his foster mom just picks up the spray bottle and he settles down. He is going up and down carpeted steps good and he can run down a few steps from a deck or porch. into a fenced back yard.
He needs a loving family willing to give him time and attention and include him in activities.
He would do well with obedience classes, his re-call isn't very good and he likes to run the fence with the neighbor dog and won't come when called, so he needs to learn this. He will chase critters and has a high prey drive so he should never be off leash out in the open.

Cooper will turn 4 in November of this year. He was given up by his owner because they were working a lot and felt he needed a home where he would get more attention.
Cooper is a typical St. Poodle, in that he loves to play, likes people and other dogs,
His left leg was amputated when he was just a year old, because he saw something moving and jumped out of the car window, just as it was being parked. His leg was damaged beyond repair so was removed.
He hasn't been exercised in a while, so his leg isn't as strong as it should be, so he will need a home that will walk him everyday, starting slow, and building up the distance. His former home didn't have any steps or stairs, so he is just now learning how to go up and down a few stairs.
I don't really consider Cooper "special needs", but he does need a home that is very dog savvy, he needs a companion dog to bond with, and a home with only a few steps.
He can jump up on the bed, but needs to be helped down, to protect his good front leg.
NO CATS. He has never killed a cat but can become obsessed with them, so best that there are no cats in the home. No small dogs, Cooper plays too rough.
He is loving, sweet,. playful, tends to be mouthy and will "air bite" when he gets excited and this could be construed as a bite by people who are no dog savvy. Cooper will make a great companion for the right family.

Cooper's adoption fee is $400.00
He is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, micro chipped and has a collar and leash. He eats Fromm kibble along with some canned food.
I would love to find a family that enjoys cooking for their dog, just for some extra tasty food.
