Cooper joined us as an owner surrender on September 20, 2015. He has come a long ways since his puppymill days a year ago! The family adopted Cooper from a rescue in Alberta and were not notified of his puppymill history and issues. They worked with Cooper extensively over the past year and have done so amazing with him. Cooper is originally from a large pomeranian puppymill in the Red Deer area. The dogs live in cages and don't eat from bowls. For this reason, Cooper actually shows signs of fear of his dishes. He needs a patient family willing to do what is needed to be sure he is eating and drinking water (his foster family feed him on the couch, the water and kibble bowls are on mats on the floor).

His prior family have taught him so much including walking on a leash. He loves running and playing in the backyard and recently just showed he prefers the company of another pomeranian (yes Cooper is a big prejudice to his own kind lol). He prefers a playful fur brother or sister that is not to be considered dominant. Cooper is an absolute love that will steal the hearts of many!

Cooper has been neutered, is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He has also received a dental since arriving in rescue. Cooper has been diagnosed with Alopecia X aka Black Skin Disease which is common in pomeranians. His foster family have a ritual of bathing him every 7-10 days exfoliating his skin with a shower luffa then giving him a coconut oil massage to help with skin tightness and fur regrowth. There is no medical treatment for this and no guarantee the fur will ever grow back. Cooper also experiences separation anxiety so is searching for a home where the person is home with him most of the time, can pack him to work, who works part time or is retired. If you sound like a match for Cooper, please complete an adoption application and we will be in touch!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cooper - ADOPTION PENDING, a Barriere Pomeranian dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pomeranian for sale in Barriere, or seeking a Pomeranian dog from a breeder in Barriere.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Barriere already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Barriere breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pomeranian breeders who help with Pomeranian rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Barriere paves the way for another one to be saved.
