Meet little Miss Dixie! She came to ESRA when her owners couldn't give her the time and attention she deserves. This petite lady is a total sweetheart who loves to be around people, and she will cuddle up with them any chance she gets. She gives the best greetings when you walk through the door, and she will always put a smile on your face! Though Dixie lived outdoors in a kennel all her life, she has adjusted seamlessly to being an indoor dog.
When Dixie first came to ESRA, she had some skin infection issues which are now pretty well under control. While they do have the potential to flare up again due to allergies, Dixie shouldn't have many issues as long as she is well cared for. She is definitely on the upswing and is looking better every day. She gets along great with other dogs, and she would be fine either as the only dog in her Forever Home or with a canine companion. Currently, Dixie shows that she wants attention whenever you are giving some to another dog, but this neediness should decrease as she gets used to receiving consistent attention from her people.
Although Dixie is well behaved when she is left home alone, she will probably do best in an environment where at least one family member will be around quite a bit during the day. Dixie's foster family works away from home on weekdays, and she did get into a little mischief once when she was on her own. However, this was easily remedied when certain areas of the house were gated off. Since then, Dixie has had no issues when she has been home alone.
Dixie is working on learning basic commands and is catching on quickly. She is also learning how to walk on a leash. She definitely wants to please, and she does make an effort to do the right thing when she is told. Dixie has so much love to give, and she just wants to be with people who will love her right back. If you are ready to welcome this dear little girl into your life, please contact her case managers at the e-mail address below.
Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.
Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Dixie.
