I am already spayed, housetrained, up to date with shots, good with kids, and good with dogs.
Introducing Penny. We have seen a lot of dogs at local shelters, and each of them have their own unique way of handling being in the sheltering environment. Some run straight to the kennel door, tails wagging, tounges hanging out, as if they have no idea of where they are. Then there are dogs that cower in the background. They are terrified and you can feel their shut down desire to just disappear as they fly their little flag that says "please walk on by, and pay me no attention. ".
And then, there are dogs like Penny. She was the perfect, and appropriate behavior we like to see in a dog in a scary environment. She sat in the back of her kennel, happy that we were paying her attention, but painfully aware that the loud and scary surroundings were not where she wanted to be. We love to see a dog with some common sense like Penny had. Sensitive but not shut down....perceptive.
We got Penny out of her kennel and took her into a visiting room at the shelter. At first, she hid under the bench not knowing wether or not to trust us. I pulled a toy and some treats out of my bag and quickly had a new friend. She loved every minute of the attention. It was time to go and we had to put her back in her kennel. She looked at us with sadness in her eyes and leaned her entire body against those metal bars. It was as if she was saying "I'll be good I promise, please let me come home with you." I promised her I'd be back for her. I wasn't sure how, as adult dogs are often harder to find fosters for. A few days later, a puppy in our rescue was adopted and went to her new home. Her foster contacted me and said she'd prefer to foster an older dog this time and we knew just the right girl.
Penny is currently in a foster home with other dogs, and loves little kids. She enjoys a good car ride. She is under a year old. We think that this sweet, tender hearted girl would make the perfect addition to any family. Her adoption fee is $500 and will include her microchip, spay surgery, ProHeart injection, vaccinations (including rabies, 7 in 1, and Bordetella), deworming, health certificate, and transportation Memphis to your area. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for an adoption application for this sweet girl.
