Trinity is a 5 month old Retriever Mix.

Trinity is a special needs girl. She was born with what is known as ectopic ureter. Basically her tubes inside are a bit discombobulated. The ureter is positioned abnormally.

Thanks to our wonderful vets at Deer Creek Animal Hospital they were able to go in surgically and re-route the ureter. It's like if you put a kink in a garden hose and the backup will eventually stretch the hose, that's what's happening with her ureter and kidneys. Re-routing the ureter to where it should be will help, but she'll most likely never have completely normal bladder function. Surgery was her only chance at a somewhat normal life without the pronounced bladder leakage that was happening when she first arrived in foster care.

Trinity came through surgery with flying colors and while she does still leak, primarily during the night, she's improved. She'll need to be on an inexpensive drug that helps her sphincter operate as it should. She will also have the potential for bladder infections in the future, so she'll need to be monitored for those regularly.
