ADOPTED ON 11-16-15 - Rambo was scheduled to be put to sleep while living in a small filthy pen. Fortunately, his southern foster was able to save him in time. We are so glad we did, because he is a very sweet boy! Rambo is a male Catahoula cur mix who is approximately 8- 10 months old and weighs approximately 35 lbs. Photos make it hard to show how Rambo's coloring and markings they make him unique, he is so very handsome has a kind sweet face.

Rambo has a low activity level and enjoys going for walks. He is still young and working on his leash skills, playing ball for 10 or 20 minutes before the leash walk will help him be able to stop and appreciate all the new smells. He does well riding in the car and is trained to ride in a crate, he has never ridden in the car without a crate. He is still a baby and is working on his housetraining. He has not been around of children so far, but he did enjoy the attention from our foster's eleven year old niece. She was in the car when we rescued him from the pound.

His's behavior with cats is unknown, he was introduced to the vet's cat and didn't show any signs of aggression, however that is the only cat he has been exposed to. We would never guarantee that a dog is good with a cat, however, we will help you and give you lots of tips. He gets along great with dogs and currently lives with a puppy and an American Bull Terrier.

The ideal home for Rambo would be a loving family who could spend lot of time with him. He enjoys going for walks, is very loving, friendly, and good-natured and likes to give kisses. His markings are eye-catching and look similar to a tiger. He would love for his new home to have a fenced in yard so he could roam freely, however, if you are an active family that jogs or runs a few days a week, he would love the one on one time.

This sweet boy was living in filth and starving when we first got him. The first few times he had food at his disposal he gobbled it down so fast he used to choke. It is clear that he had been living a life where he didn't know when he would be fed next. If you would like to be the one to give Rambo a forever home, with love and affection, where he never has to wonder if his next meal is coming. This is a special dog looking for that special family! Rambo is an exceptional dog that will steal your heart.

ABOUT THE BREED
Catahoula Leopard Dogs have a gentle family spirit. Easily comfortable playing on the carpet with children. Gentle, wise and easygoing, they make an agreeable family dog and warm-hearted friend. They are naturally protective of their home and family, and make excellent watch/guard dogs.

Catahoula’s are exceptionally intelligent and loyal. However, they are also a highly energetic and very assertive breed. They are affectionate and sensitive to their owner. As one owner puts it, they are "strong" and "made of whipcord and leather". They are very protective of their family

PET COMPATIBILITY
Friendliness toward dogs and friendliness toward humans are two completely different things. As you can see by the videos, Tink loves other dogs and life. She spent lots of time playing with other dogs

CHILDREN
Some breeders describe the Catahoula as a great babysitter for kids. The Catahoula is suitable for families with children, but despite their family loyalty and protectiveness, the dog should always be supervised in the presence of toddlers or young children. Dogs can be rambunctious and may accidentally knock small children down.

Being gentle with children, sturdy enough to handle the heavy-handed pets and hugs they can dish out, and having a blasé attitude toward running, screaming children are all traits that make a kid-friendly dog. All dogs are individuals. Our ratings are generalizations, and they're not a guarantee of how any breed or individual dog will behave. Dogs from any breed can be good with children based on their past experiences, training on how to get along with kids, and personality. No matter what the breed or breed type, all dogs have strong jaws, sharp pointy teeth, and may bite in stressful circumstances. Young children and dogs of any breed should always be supervised by an adult and never left alone together.

TEMPERAMENT
Catahoula Leopard Dogs are assertive, strong dogs. They are affectionate and playful with their owners. They are very protective and not afraid of a fight, they generally get along with children, but should be supervised. They are tougher than most other shepherd dogs and can serve as pack leaders.

PERSONALITY
The proper Catahoula is not aggressive toward people. He is wary of strangers but never shy. With family members, he is loving and protective. Catahoula’s are excellent watchdogs and will bark a warning or otherwise go on alert at the approach of strangers. Treat them firmly but fairly. They do not accept mistreatment or physical abuse.

IMPORTANT POINTS ABOUT PACK LEADERS
It is a natural instinct for a dog to have an order in its pack, therefore, the only way your relationship with your dog can be a complete success you must be the pack leader:

• When we humans live with dogs, we become their pack
• The entire pack cooperates under a single leader
• Lines are clearly defined and rules are set
Dogs communicates his displeasure with growling and eventually biting
Humans MUST be higher up in the order than the dog.
• The humans must be the ones making the decisions, not the dogs.

HOUSETRAINING
Schedule Feeding Time - Find your dog’s schedule so that you can work with that
• Feed your dog on a regular schedule time, always within a half hour of the time

Schedule Water – Help your dog bee successful
• ·Keep a schedule for water, however, you should design a schedule that fits you
 Remove the water dish after the first feeding in the morning
 After the night feeding, leave water dish for two hours, then take it up
 Before your last walk for the night, put the water dish down about an hour before
 Then walk your dog 45 minutes after he has had water. There will might be days where that might be an exception for water.

Schedule Walking Time - Find your dog’s schedule, then gently move it to your schedule.
• Start by taking the dog out every two hours for two days, if he goes every two hours,
• Then take him out every three hours, for two days,
• Until you reach the time frame you need – every six hours—eight hours etc

One accident in the house, there is a urine smell that the dog detects and his instinct to continue mark where he smells urine. This is how wild dogs let other dogs know that this territory is taken and for dogs not in the pack to go elsewhere. If your dog has an accident in the house, spray the area with 3 parts vinegar and 1 part water, brush with a soft brush, put a towel on top to absorb the liquid, then take it outside where you want him to go, take it out of the bag and put it on the ground, praise your dog when he goes outside.

Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!

Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!
