My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Captain Crunch" is a handsome, nearly 4-yo (born November 2011) neutered male longcoat GSD who is playful and happy-go-lucky, yet quite protective of his home. Captain is very tall (about 31" at the withers) and weighs about 85 lbs.

Captain is very friendly with strangers in neutral environments, but needs to be properly introduced to strangers inside the house or he will charge them. He is not a dog for a household with lots of people coming and going without regards to his whereabouts. Captain has been fine w/ an 8-yo girl, and is likely fine with children younger than that--though there is always the chance of him bowling them over.

Captain is great with other dogs. He loves to play and be chased, and especially likes high-energy female dogs. He is on the submissive side and will shy away rather than fight if a dog gets testy with him. Captain is not good with cats.

Captain has not received any formal training, but does respond well to basic commands such as sit & shake. He loves being indoors, and his owners have left him inside for up to six hours with no problems at all. When left outside for any extended period of time, Captain becomes restless and might seek a way out of the yard.

Captain loves to play fetch and chew on tennis balls. (He earned his nickname Captain Crunch from the crunching sound that a tennis ball makes when Captain is chewing on it.) He also loves to swim and fetch balls in the water.

Captain has a fear of thunder and fireworks (as do many dogs), but not so bad that he needs tranquilizers. He is also fearful of umbrellas opening and rubber bands, hair ties, and the like.

Captain's owner Allison and her husband adopted him in Jan or Feb 2015 from a couple who were going to bring him to a shelter if they didn't find a home for him within a few days. The couple raised Captain from a puppy, but had never had a dog before. They kept him outside and had minimal contact with him. Then, just before the wife was going to have a baby, they decided to get rid of him. Allison and her husband adopted Captain, even though they weren't sure if he was the right dog for them; they didn't want to see Captain going to a shelter.

Allison and her husband are seeking a new home for Captain because he has not bonded as strongly with them as their previous GSD and are seeking a more "serious" working-type GSD.
GSRSV has evaluated Captain and is placing him as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Captain through its adoption program while his caretakers continue to care for him.

Captain's adoption fee is $225, which includes a microchip. He is located in Antelope.
