Hello, I’m Zahara. It is so nice to meet you. Do you like big mutts and you cannot lie? Great! If you haven’t guessed, I’m an 88lb female Great Dane. Although I am under 2 years old, us Great Danes grow until we are about 3 years, so I still have a bit to go! However, there is much more to me than my breed and silly numbers. First of all, I love to goof around. Playing fetch, and loudly pouncing on rope toys is my specialty. Additionally, I love to play like a giant puppy, and wrestle stuffed animals. Also, I have met other dogs of varying sizes, and cats too. Although I am good with all of them, I do get super excited and need gentle reminders to calmly introduce myself (even though it is super exciting!). My extra happy personality is also why I will need a home with kids 12 and up, because I still act like a puppy – and can easily bowl someone over on accident. I have met kids, and done well – but a dog savvy, mature household is ideal!
Oh, and I do love to snuggle like a little lap dog. It has been hard, but I have learned that I am not allowed on the couch without an invitation (pretty polite, aye?) Leash walking has also been going well, but I really do need a fenced in yard for me to romp and play in. Recently, I also learned “sit” and am working on “shake”. I’m very treat motivated, and would love to have a home with someone who has the time for my puppy-like energy and personality. 1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….
2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.
3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.
My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery (I had a gastro-pexy too) , rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.
