My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Southern California Dachshund Relief at: Dena@SCDR.org and not the rescue group connected to this page. The best (and preferred) method of contact for quick response is by way of e-mail. Please read the dogs’ entire bio before contacting rescue.

Brownie is a 6 year old, red standard Dachshund/Min-Pin mix, weighing about 20 pounds of love and affection. He will be celebrating his 6th birthday on November 5th. Brownie’s vaccines are up-to-date, he is neutered, and he has been microchipped.

Brownie was a foster dog for a Central California shelter. Due to unfortunate events, the shelter was shut down, leaving the foster families completely abandoned to network their foster dogs on their own to get them adopted. Recently, one of the foster families contacted SCDR and asked for our help to find Brownie a loving home. They would have loved to keep him, but due to a recent move, Brownie finds himself in a home with three other dogs, two of whom do not get along with him. It is just one-dog-too-many for their little pack, and he is the odd man out.

Brownie’s legs are taller than the average dachshund and the best part about that is that he would be fine in a home with stairs. His taller legs ensure there would be little chance of trauma to his back going up and down stairs. He loves to sleep in the big bed, and cuddle in his person’s lap at every opportunity. He is a very cuddly boy. He would love to have a friendly dog companion in his new home. He loves to play “wrestle-mania” and run laps around the yard.

Brownie is sweet, and just a bit shy when meeting new people. He needs a few minutes to warm up to new folks, but treats and toys go a long way toward winning him over. His leash skills are well developed, and he loves putting on his harness to go walking or for a ride in the car. He is a fast learner and training is no problem for him. He is crate trained, house trained, and uses the doggie door.

Brownie is a good candidate for apartment or condo living if his people are not gone for long hours. He is a people dog and does not necessarily require a canine companion. He is friendly with female dogs. Male dogs, not so much. He is crate trained, but much prefers the big bed for nighttime snuggles and sleep. He’s an “under-the-covers, up-close-and-personal” kind of guy.
