My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jeremiah is a 2-year-old tricolor Beagle/Hound beauty whose only “hound” characteristics are sweet, droopy eyes, long silky ears, and a sleek long torso.  Otherwise he is all Beagle. He bounced into rescue with the energy of a pup and the eagerness to please of a 2-year-old dog.  Jerry doesn’t appear to have had a lot of training because he arrived jumping into laps and up onto people at will and stealing off tabletops.  He will need a very secure yard, as he tried to dig out of our yard in several places in his first few days.  Within days, however, he learned not to jump on laps without an invitation, seems smart and eager to please, and has shown himself to be very trainable.  He has already settled down quite a bit into the pack and has become no trouble at all.

He has amazingly soft fur and the softest amber eyes that immediately steal your heart.  He needs to put on some weight at 35 pounds; and he is anxious to do his part in that endeavor, eating eagerly and always asking for more in true Beagle fashion.  On arrival he jumped over both the house Beagles for treats, but after 7 short days in rescue has learned to sit and wait to get his treat until his name is called.  Jeremiah is house trained with and without a dog door. He has a pretty, musical deep bark, but only uses it occasionally.  He isn’t wild about being crated but has gotten used to it fairly easily, only crying a little when crated, then settling into his bed and going right to sleep.  He also loves to sleep on our bed or on a bed near us with the other dogs.

He falls in love readily both with other dogs and with people.  He has an endearing habit of putting paws on your lap and pressing his head against your neck or face while you pet him.  He adores the kids he meets on his walks, but probably shouldn’t go to a home with small kids until he has learned not to jump up on people!  He also would be great as an only dog as long as he got some nice long walks and trips to the dog park.  If you are away long periods, crating may be necessary for a while.  If falling hard in love with a dog is your intention and you don’t mind continuing his training, Jeremiah could make that happen for you overnight.
