Checkers is looking for a special family who will work with his megaesogphagus which is a condition that requires him to eat pureed food from a high chair. Dogs with this condition can live long and productive lives. Currently his condition requires that he be feed 4 small meals a day sitting in a highchair or an upright position. He needs to remain upright for about 20-30 minutes after each meal to ensure he will not throw up. He is still a lively dog that loves to play with his siblings and other dogs, however this is a condition he will have for life. He loves other dogs and is great with kids.

Like all Mikey's Chance dogs, this dog will come to you from a foster home that has provided loving one-on-one attention, socialization and some basic training, as well as quality food and exercise.

About Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue East Side

About Our Rescue Group...

"Mikey's Chance" is a dog rescue organization organized under Washington State articles of Incorporation as a Non-profit Charity. We focus mainly on saving dogs that are at risk or on “Death Row” in shelters in our area, and placing them to great families. We work with individual adopters, private rescuers, and rescue organizations that share our values. All our dogs are up to date on shots, sterilized, and microchipped prior to adoption, and they are all carefully evaluated to ensure the best possible match with adopters.

"Mikey's Chance" - It's named for a dog called Mikey, who was a beautiful, friendly black lab whose people abandoned him. He spent several months in a cramped kennel in an overcrowded shelter, slowly losing hope. Mikey finally snapped in October 2008. A victim to severe kennel stress, he tried to bite several shelter staff, and was euthanized. This happened the very day someone arrived to take him to a foster home. Mikey's chance at a new life came too late ... and we are determined to work as hard and as effectively as we can to make sure that this does not happen again to any dog that we are in a position to help.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We depend on a network of volunteers and fosters for the care of our dogs. The dogs are fostered primarily in the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia WA area and in the Tri-Cities area of South Central WA.

Our Adoption Process...

We require an adoption application to be filled out which includes personal references. An in-Home check by a Mikey's Chance volunteer is generally performed prior to adoption. Our dogs come to the adopter "ready-to-go" with current vet health checks, all shots and vaccinations current and the animal spayed or neutered. Fees vary, depending on the dog, but generally run in the $225-$285 range due to medical expenses.
