My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET MISSY-

MISSY is a very sweet 7 year old 13.5 lb Senior Dachshund looking for a loving forever family. This beautiful senior doxie has experienced a lot of tragedy recently: Missy, the little Dachshund was deer hunting with her dad (yep...they went Everywhere together). Missy’s dad, David, was shot and accidentally killed in front of her. She actually helped search and rescue find her Dad. She went directly to David’s family, but every time they looked at her, all they saw was their son, because he and Missy truly went everywhere together. The family took Missy to a vet in Washington to have her euthanized, but the vet refused and suggested they contact Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. Momma Jenell drove to Washington to get her yesterday and now she is with Jenell and the loving volunteers at the Rescue. Missy needs lots of TLC and will be fully vetted as soon as she calms down. Missy is confused and upset. She still looks for her Dad and is so very sad - you can see it in her eyes. She is being held and loved, snuggled in lots of blankets with good food and no shortage of cuddles. She is loving and so precious. This is one of the most tragic stories we've come across and her little heart is just broken. Do you have space in your home and hearts to help little Missy's heart heal? If so, please visit www.odr-inc.org and complete an Adoption Questionnaire. Missy's behavior is excellent, she has no issues. She does well with a stay at home parent (retired or work from home), older kids and could be placed with a gentlemanly neutered male doxie. We'd also appreciate all your prayers and positive thoughts please (for Missy and for her previous family). This has been a tough time for her.

Like all Dachshunds, MISSY is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, MISSY needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give MISSY a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
