My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet beautiful Ruby! This just turned four, flashy BC mix has many traits of the breed. She’s sensitive, eager to learn, bright, driven, and full of energy! Adopted from WBCR as a puppy, Ruby has recently come back to the rescue. She is ready and waiting for a forever home once and for all, who will understand her and work to help her feel more confident and comfortable in the world.

While she’s no social butterfly, once Ruby warm up to someone, she is a sweet and cuddly girl. She follows her foster family around like a shadow, and happily soaks up marathon petting sessions! She’s wary around new people and dogs, particularly men and dogs behind fences, but once she’s introduced she warms up fairly quickly. With people she does know, she’s very affectionate, and loves to be petted, or to cuddle up next to you. Given her history and her nature, she will not be placed in a home with children. Ruby is good with dogs of all sizes, being generally submissive. She’s playful with some, and seems to enjoy the company of other dogs. She could live with other dog or enjoy being the star of attention as the only dog. She does have some issues with resource guarding (food and some toys), but her fosters are already starting to see some improvement there. She has lived peaceably with cats. While she enjoys some toys, her favorite activity is Frisbee, and this Frisbee star would love a home where she can play every day!! She’s currently learning how to run on a leash, so she could be a good running buddy as well. Ruby is very vocal, and certain noises will get her going (e.g. dinosaur sounds on TV); she has quite the repertoire of sounds she can make – even one that’s a perfect Chewbacca impersonation! Like many BCs, she’s a pretty high energy girl, and will need a generous chunk of exercise daily to help her be at her best, in addition to mental stimulation. And like many BCs, she has a propensity to be bored easily and perhaps look for trouble if not given a lot of stimulus.

Ruby lived as a loved family companion all her life and it shows. She has lots of skills! In addition to being house and crate trained, she not only responds incredibly well to basic commands, but also learns new ones very quickly. What Ruby needs more than anything is someone to help build her confidence. She can be fearful, and outside of her home and familiar environment Ruby can be timid and skittish. While more basic manners training will benefit, adopters who will help her to learn, at a pace she is comfortable with, that the world is a good and fun place will be ideal to help Ruby grow and flourish.

All in all, Ruby is a lovely young dog. In the right hands, she can grow into a confident, happy dog. If you are looking for a dog filled with potential, and have the know-how, time, and energy to help a timid dog blossom, Ruby may be the one for you.

Ruby is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and being fostered in a loving home in Denver, CO.
