My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated bio 12-10-15 Scotty is a sweet, 5 year old boy. He is about 14 pounds. Scotty is a Yorkie mix, being fostered in Leesburg, FL.

Scotty has completed the majority of his heartworm treatment. He now has a month left of restricted activity and confinement. He is not a happy boy because he needs to stay confined in a playpen most of the day. Too much activity can get his heart rate accelerated and cause the worms to get into his lungs.

Because Scotty has to be kept quiet he is not able to exercise. He has not been able to lose the 2 pounds his foster parents hoped he would. He should weigh closer to 12 pounds. Once he is able to get out and take some long walks or do some running around, he should get down to his right weight. Scotty’s hair has pretty much grown back and he is looking so handsome.

Scotty has the most adorable Yorkie face. He has the cutest little legs on a body that is just a little too round. He is filled with love to give to someone who will love him back.

It is so sad to see Scotty just lie in this pen all day and watch the other dogs and his people. He looks out through the pen with just the saddest eyes. You know he is quietly begging for someone to play wit him, but his foster parents can’t. They want him to get well and live a long long life with his forever family. Scotty just loves to give kisses and to be held and cuddled. He is a 14-pound lap baby who will sit with his people all day if they let him. He is so devoted to his people he would become their best friend and companion.

Scotty does not seem to care for other dogs, especially male dogs. He is okay with female dogs. In truth his foster parents think he would be the happiest being an only dog and being the one getting all the love and attention he so badly wants.

Scotty is waiting for his forever family to come find him. Although he can’t go to his forever home until sometime in January we are taking applications for him. Scotty hopes that he has his forever home to go to as soon as he is finished with his treatment. He is ready for someone to take him and love him and care for him forever.

Updated bio 11/11/15 Scotty is an approximately 5 year old little yorkie mix. He is 14 pounds, but should probably be closer to 11 or 12 pounds. He is being fostered in Leesburg, FL.

Scotty had his first injection of melarsomine painfully injected into his muscle yesterday. This is the first in a series of three injections for the treatment of his heartworm disease. He spent the day at the vet clinic because of the severity of the injection. He will have the second injection in a month, on Dec. 9th, and the third the day after the second. He will need to continue to be kept calm as part of the treatment so as not to increase any blood flow containing dead worms to critical organs like his lungs. Scotty needs to lose a few pounds and his decreased activity will make that a little difficult. But no matter because he is one great dog and taking all this like a real trooper.

Despite everything he has gone through and is now going through, Scotty is quite a wonderful little dog. He is coming along with his potty training. He is a great eater and sleeper. Scotty loves his people and wants to be with them more than he likes the company of other dogs. He would be happy to be cuddled and petted by his people all day long if they would.

Scotty was groomed today and is looking very very handsome. Scotty would do best in a home with adults only or with older children. He was alone so much in his past life he would not be happy being alone a lot again in his forever life.

Scotty won't be able to go to his forever home until sometime in January the soonest. He wants everyone to know he is doing as well as can be expected, and to please remember to give your dogs heartworm preventative so they don't have to go through what he is.

Update 10/16/15
Scotty continues to be his feisty full of life self! His hair is growing back, and it looks like most,
if not all of it, will grow out

Update bio 10-4-15 Scotty is our 5-year-young Yorkie mix boy. He lost a ½ pound and is now 12.5 lbs. Scotty is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.

Sadly Scotty is heartworm positive and undergoing treatment for that. We are currently following the care plan protocol. Scotty will not be available for adoption until sometime in January when his official treatment is completed.

Scotty is a very rambunctious little fella, with an adorable little face that lets him get away with a lot. Scotty acts like a two-year-old toddler. Although he is said to be 5 years old he acts more like he is still a puppy. His pearly white teeth and his high-energy level make his foster mom believe he is really a young fella. Scotty’s high energy level doesn’t help his treatment for the heartworm disease. He needs to be kept as calm as possible so the heartworms do not get aggravated and crawl into his lungs. That could mean death for Scotty. We are all anxiously waiting for the day Scotty is declared heartworm free. Before that he will need to go through more months of serious treatment and care.

Scotty’s skin condition is clearing up and he is no longer scratching his skin. We’re still waiting to see if he will get any hair on the upper part of his back, but he is getting some on the bottom portion.

Although Scotty won’t be ready for his forever home for a few months we are taking adoption applications for him. Please, if you think you would be the right family to give Scotty his forever home, submit an application for him. He will be your best pup ever.

Initial Bio 9/9/15 Meet Scotty. He is a very cute little yorkie boy. He is about 5 years old and weighs a little too chubby 13.2 pounds. Scotty is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.

Scotty was surrender by his owner into the shelter because of some chronic medical conditions. This adorable little guy has probably spent his whole life outside in a crate or on a porch never seeing or being allowed inside a house. This horrible neglect of his care is nothing short of abuse. It is also the reason Scotty is heartworm positive, has severe hair loss on his back most likely due to fleas and untreated insect bites, and has an infection in both eye and ears.

In spite of all this, this baby is so sweet and so loving. He has already been started on his heartworm treatment which will continue for 3 months as the medicine slowly kills the heartworms while his foster mom and dad make sure Scotty stays well. This means a quiet life with restricted activity so as not to excite the heartworms causing them to travel into his lungs. Sometime the heartworm treatment itself can be fatal, but his foster parents will do everything possible to see that that doesn't happen. He is now on medication for his skin condition. There is a chance some the hair won't grow back because of how severe the scabbing and sores are, but with his little shirt on you can't even tell. The picture of his back shows how severe this hair loss is and the horrible condition of his skin.

But there is great hope for sweet little Scotty. His skin condition will clear up and his hair, or most of it, should grow back. His eyes and ears will be treated and cleared up. Most of all the heartworm disease will be treated and he will once again be heartworm negative and a healthy, happy, joyful little pup.

Scotty just became a United Yorkie Rescue dog today so his foster mom and dad don't know too much as far as house training, or how he does with cats or kids. He is a little protective of his crate since he lived in one all his life, but he seems to be very easy going and had no problem meeting his new foster brother and sister.

Scotty's treatments will be expensive so please, if you can, donate to his care. Scotty needs to know that people are kind, they do care, and that he is loved.

Scotty won't be able to go to his forever home for at least three months while he undergoes the heartworm treatment, but updates and pictures will be posted soon. Please watch for them and for more information about the kind of forever home Scotty needs as his foster mom and dad get to know him.
