My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LIEUTENANT is a 7 month old spayed fox red female Lab who weighs 38 pounds. She is a very happy and friendly pup, like most puppies everyone is her friend and she is happy to meet them. If you sit down to pet her she will crawl in your lap and give you kisses for being her friend. She is learning to play with toys and thinks they a great way to have fun. . Good with other dogs had her out with several with no problems. . Knows sit and come. Can use more training so will have Training Addendum. Learning to walk on lead good with an Easy Walk Harness. Most likely house trained, waits until she goes outside to go. Lieutenant is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (12/14): Lieutenant had the staples out from her operation she is feeling better but is still on exercise restriction. She is a super sweet, friendly and playful pup who is extremely well behaved for her age. She loves everyone she meets and loves to cuddle. She gets as close as possible for pets and will either sit on your lap or will slide down and roll over for belly rubs. Gives lots of kisses and has a great disposition. She’s quickly figured out, and has settled into, a new routine. She knows where the treats are kept, when it’s time for a mid-morning snack, and can count to 2 for treats at nights. She learned from her foster brother that 2 treats are required at night – hold out for the second if it’s not given immediately following the first treat.
She’s adjusted well to temporary confinement. Keeps herself amused with various toys, peanut butter kongs, and other treat puzzles. She likes her massages and will settle next to me on the floor chewing on a toy while we do our daily therapy/leg movements which are part of her 8 week recovery. We burn mental energy daily by working on training and games. She knows sit, lay down and touch (touches her nose to your hand). She is working on shake, leave it and wait. She’s treat motivated and very smart so will be easy to train and also fun to play other games with. I also hide treats in a blanket and she “searches” for the buried treasure. She quickly figured out that the easiest way to get to the treats in the wobble is to unscrew the cap; no need to wobble the toy back and forth.
Lieutenant is super friendly and shares easily. She tries to engage the resident pup in play daily and will give him play bows or try and provoke him into playing when I’m not looking. Sadly, he went through 2 ACL surgeries and recoveries himself and is therefore familiar with the command of “no running, no playing, no jumping” so he is not easily swayed by Lieutenant’s charms while mom is around.
Lieutenant will make a great addition to a family and will keep them entertained with her antics. She enjoys being outside, if only to sniff the air and see what’s going on. I suspect that she’d love a nice big yard to run around as well as an active family as she recovers. I suspect she might like to chase tennis balls; she has one in her mouth and has adopted a very specific tennis ball that she takes from the porch to the deck and back when we go in and out. (on leash – is not allowed off leash during recovery).

Update (11/22): Lieutenant is a very sweet She needs an operation on her leg to let her walk better. She is presently being fostered in an active home with two other dogs, 3 kids and a cat that thinks she is another dog, Lieutenant gets along with all of them.
We are looking for a foster in the Tidewater area that can foster her after her operation for about 8 weeks. She will need to be crated and have rest while she recuperates and has some physical therapy. She is a great dog and the major problem you would have is not falling in love with her.

Lieutenant comes from the country and has no exposure to big cities. Placements is limited to single family stand-alone homes in a suburban neighborhood, or rural area.
