My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there! My name is Evan. I'm a 1-year-old neutered male purebred Golden Retriever. I weigh approximately 65 pounds.

You've probably noticed by now that I have a pretty gnarly incision on my left thigh and some wounds on my face. Not too long ago I was hit by a car. Obviously, I was a very lucky boy to have survived such an ordeal, but I didn't walk away unscathed. I sustained multiple injuries - the worst of which was a broken femur.

No one knows exactly how I was able to come in contact with the car, but it's suspected that I got out through an open door. When my previous owners realized what had happened, they raced me to their local vet. After hearing my diagnosis and the details of what would be involved in repairing my broken body, they declined treatment and opted to have me euthanized.

The vet didn't want to euthanize me just for a broken leg and some superficial wounds so they asked my family if they would relinquish ownership of me instead. Thankfully, they agreed to it. I obviously couldn't live at the vet for the rest of my life so the staff had to find a place for me to go. Their first thought was to call CageFree to see if they would be able to take me into their rescue. Luckily, they had an opening for me.

After picking me up from the vet, they raced me over to see an orthopedic specialist. I went into surgery that same day. A metal plate was inserted to stabilize my leg and my wounds were cleaned and dressed. I'm already feeling like a new dog and it hasn't even been that long since going under the knife. If it weren't for my shaved rump and the wounds on my face, you'd never know that anything was wrong. I'm putting weight on my leg and I run and jump all over the place without any pain (shh...don't tell my human companions. I'm supposed to be on activity restriction for at least another month and a half). Can you blame me for feeling so happy about being alive? And, just in case you're wondering about long term effects, my vet expects me to make a full recovery.

If you are looking for a really sweet dog that loves people, you have come to the right place, my friend! It won't take us long to become best friends. Trust me! If you give me belly rubs and hold my paw when I offer it, I'll be your loyal companion for the rest of my life.

It's really important that I find an active family. I have a zest for life that needs to be nurtured in order to keep me happy and healthy. Do you enjoy the outdoors? Camping? Hiking? Playing tug-o-war? I really like to retrieve things (duh!) so it would be great if we could play fetch and play often. I'm not sure if I enjoy water, but what the heck, I'll give it a try. Let's go on an adventure together and explore the world!

Due to my injuries and my subsequent activity restriction, my friends have not been able to introduce me to the rest of the rescue pack. I'm not sure yet if I would want to live with another dog or not. Also, we don't have any kitties where I am currently staying. Therefore, my friends aren't sure how I would behave in a home with cats. I seem to be housebroken as I never have accidents in my kennel.

If you're interested in adopting me, please don't hesitate to contact CageFree to schedule a time to come meet me. I'll be waiting!!
