My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

RADAR is a 6 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 64 pounds. He is a large barrel chested male. He has a large wide head and lab ears. He has dewclaws on his rear feet and has a thick tail. He is quite the handsome guy! The shelter staff love him and were excited that LR would take him. Radar waited patiently in his kennel for us to take him out. He was alert, calm and quiet in his run and when walked outside he was not reactive to the other dogs in neighboring kennels. He was excited and focused on getting outside. He ran and played in the enclosure. He keeps his kennel clean and appears to be housetrained. After sniffing the fence line, he returned to us to play ball and roll on his back for belly rubs. He is sweet and likes attention! Very nice temperament and easy going. Radar had lived with another dog and was assessed was with three different dogs: a female, a neutered male and an unneutered male. He passed with flying colors. He is very laid back- didn't necessarily want to play with them but didn't mind their company. The shelter tested him with cats and he did fine around them: he is okay with cats.Radar is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (12/10): He continues to charm and entertain. He went out to dinner last night with his foster siblings, and 2 other dogs and was extremely well behaved, befriending wait staff and guests in the restaurant . He is a lap lab and wants to be close to his humans, full of hugs and kisses on a regular basis. He gets along with everyone, including the cat. Radar sleeps quietly all night long in his crate, and responds to "nap -nap " and simply heads into bed. This is as a preparation of his anticipated need for some down time when he begins his heatworm treatment in January. Radar absolutely loves toys; will clean out the toy bin, relocate them, and share with resident sibs. He is a very sociable guy who would do well with joining in with his humans, and/or, other canine family members, with activities.

Update (11/30): Radar had a wonderful weekend with a temporary foster as his fosters were on vacation. His fosters gave him a glowing report. They say that is great at meeting new dogs, he was so sweet with their female dogs and very respectful of their space. He met her nephew’s 10 month old pit puppy and they got along great. They played ball outside in the yard for what seemed like forever. Radar loves to be outside and when he is done his heartworm treatment will be a great walking/ hiking companion. On Thanksgiving, they had a full house. Radar was the poster boy for Lab Rescue. He charmed everyone. His manners were perfect, no jumping, begging, or counter surfing. Of course, it helped that he was tired from playing, but his sweet demeanor and beautiful blocky head made him a wonderful guest!

Update (11/16): Radar is quite the charmer and entertainment specialist. He had a relaxing Sunday morning after schmoozing a Saturday evening dinner guest. He is getting along great with the resident labs, and THE RULING CAT! He is an avid sock hunter, but returns them politely and unshredded. He is doing well sleeping in the crate. This is a country boy who enjoys easy romps in the yard, or on a leash. This weekend his fosters learned that he has an urge to be helpful around the house and to assist with the dirty laundry sorting. As he is apparently a quick study, he observed and concluded that a pile of dirty clothing on the floor, meant that he was obliged to open drawers and pull out clean ones as well, and add to the preparation pile. And he is so affectionate!

Update (11/14): Radar is an exuberant, energetic, inquisitive, strong, affectionate boy who wants to show his gratitude. Radar is a country boy who will benefit from a fenced yard. He responds to sit. He gives big, happy kisses.

Radar is a 6 year old black neutered male. He and another dog were picked up after found running along a highway. After asking around they determined who the owner was but the owners never picked up the dogs. The other dog appears to be more of a mix.
