My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweetheart came to NBSAR from a very kind ACO who found her along with several other dogs in horrible conditions in a grooming salon. We were so thankful that we were able to help Ms. Layla get into a much better environment, get the medical care she desperately needed, and to help her start looking for her fur-ever home.

Layla is a 4-5 year old spayed female Shih Tzu who is incredibly sweet and loving. She has very limited vision in one of her eyes, and decreased vision in her other eye due to congenital cataracts. This little lady can be a bit shy and nervous of new people and in new environments, but a few soft words and gentle ear scratches (tasty treats don't hurt either!) Layla quickly learns to trust and is your new best friend. She gets along with just about any friendly dog that she's met and in fact, she would do best in a home that had another small dog to help her feel comfortable in her surroundings due to her decreased vision.

Layla is looking for a home with a fenced yard, another small friendly dog in the home, a family who is gone no longer than 4-5 hours at a time, and children with previous dog experience 12+ years of age.

Please don't let this little girl's decreased vision scare you off from making her a permanent member of your family. She is a quiet house guest, knows how to do her personal business outside, and loves to snuggle with you on the couch and go for short walks. This little lady is a foster favorite due to her sweet personality and gentle nature.

Think she is the gal for you?
1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
