My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From Eva's foster family:

Eva is our little jester and one of the best behaved dogs we’ve had the pleasure of fostering. She was rescued from a shelter in Texas in late November. She is a year old, 39 pounds, spayed, and up to date on vaccinations.

We know that she is comfortable in a crate but has not needed it since being with us. After a trial week of separation, she has had free run of the house with our two dogs when we are gone. She likes them very much but has a wandering eye - always having to flirt with new dogs on walks! She would love a companion more playful than these two oldies. She is so incredibly sweet with her people, Eva could be placed as an only dog in the right circumstance as well, provided she would get to meet new pups regularly or have some neighborhood friends.

Eva has the funniest, most endearing habits. She likes to talk (or woo-woo, as we say), roll on her back and bat at us with her paws to play, and run circles in fresh snow. Her expressions are the best and she knows it; she’s a happy kiddo and always trying the share her enthusiasm with the rest of us. Despite being a Texas girl, she loves the snow and has adapted to the Maine climate no problem. If she’s outside, she’s happy, simple as that! We take her on nature walks, to the beach, and on big hikes in the mountains of New Hampshire with our two a couple of times a month. Believe me, she loves a warm couch on movie night just as much!

Eva’s only struggle is her timidity of new people. When she first arrived, any new person would be a concern for her. Nowadays, when we go on walks, she is nonchalant the majority of the time, provided it isn’t a big guy yelling in a booming voice for his dog! In the house, she is more unsure but will find a bed in an adjacent room where she feels safe and comfortably lays down while visitors are over. If they stay awhile, and especially if extra tasty food is involved, she is beginning to remain in the same room as guests for short periods. She does best when we leave decisions up to her and request visitors do not try to actively win her over. Holding food out and watching TV will likely earn them a quick kiss on the hand! There are even family members who have spent a couple nights over of the last few weeks that she now treats with almost the same level of comfort as us!

We have been a little lax in our training but she arrived with beautiful leash and house manners. She knows “sit” now and is learning “come.” She has picked up on our unofficial language of “wait, let me fix (when her leash gets stuck under her), okay, go potty, etc.” too. Eva is a smart, funny girl with a big heart who is looking for a quiet but active home with patient folk(s) who have a sense of humor!
