My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tiny, an adorably petite beagle mix who is around the age of 7 years old. He weighs only about 10 lbs maximum so something else is in him and keeping him nice and "tiny". This easy going guy moved with his owner to a new place in southern Indiana. Not sure what happened but Tiny was dropped off at animal control with "had a dispute with landlord - owner surrender" written on his card. Tiny was terrified at the animal control building but luckily a wonderful volunteer stepped up and agreed to foster him until he could make a transport. Owner surrenders often have little time so it was imperative to get him safe as soon as possible. Tiny came home with her and bloomed in her home environment. With the holiday weekend approaching, it was important to get out as many dogs as possible so good natured dogs like Tiny were heartworm tested and prepped for rescue.

Tiny arrived in the Kane County area's first snow storm of the season! Despite the wind and snow, Tiny had no issues using the bathroom outside in the back yard. He was slowly introduced to all the dogs in the home and did wonderful with all of them. He was very patient as he underwent the sniff-check numerous times. Once every one met, it was inside for him to meet the cat. Tiny met the foster home's very friendly cat and had no reaction to him at all. They are often caught sharing a dog bed together -in the sun- and there is no reported jealousy either. During his eating time, Tiny's foster mom tested him for food guarding or other issues and found him to completely easygoing around the food dish bowl too. He can be petted, the food can be taken up, and other dogs (and a cat) can join in without a reaction.

Tiny's next introduction was to the 5 child savvy dogs in the home. They let him discover them and he proved to be gentle and trustworthy with all of them. He loves to be held as the teens do their online homework and he is more than happy to be a reading buddy to the elementary-aged children. Initially he wasn't sure of the 3 year old when she refused naptime and he quietly left the room during her meltdown. Several times during her nap, Tiny would go in her room and check on her. He does fine with her and has the blessing of wisdom to just leave the room when she is having a tantrum :) One thing that the children discovered when they were taking his picture is that he likes to stick one of his ears straight out. He's a cutie for sure and if you have any doubt, look into those big ole hound dog eyes!

Tiny's current foster home was forewarned by the volunteer in Indiana that he did not like crates. Tiny is currently crated when his family is gone and he was the first night as well. Of course he tried the 'poor me' routine with a little whining but his foster dad is allergic to dogs He is allowed lose at night but his foster family feels keeping his environment small during his first few weeks is the best way to keep a small dog housetrained in a new environment. He has no issues going outside to do his business and has not shown any signs of marking in the home. Tiny does fine on car rides and is learning to walk properly on a leash. Tiny does bark when someone comes to the door as well as when coyotes show up at the fence line, but he is easily redirected and quieted. He is a total people pleaser and loves verbal praise! Tiny has a great easy going personality that would fit into almost any home situation.

Tiny's adoption fee is $200. He is neutered, up to date with his vaccinations including bordetella and rabies. He is heartworm negative and on a monthly preventative for heartworm and fleas. His adoption fee includes a free microchipping at a Rover Rescue veterinarian. If you are interested in Tiny, please call his foster mom Mary at 630-585-7927 for a phone interview. She will have some questions for you as well as answer any questions you may have about this sweet little guy!
