My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rudy is a 5-6 month old male...well we're now going with possible Hound/Terrier. Rudy came up with his siblings who were most definitely Spaniel/Border Collie mixes but poor Rudy looked absolutely NOTHING like them at all. He wasn't all fuzzy black and white, but more resembles a brown paper bag. He was the odd man out and it doesn't appear to be working in his favor. He's been in his foster home for going on two months now and he just hasn't had any luck in finding his forever home. What makes absolutely NO sense is that Rudy is an exceptional puppy. People are always looking for the perfect size, well behaved, good with kids, good with dogs, HOUSEBROKEN, perfect family dog and Rudy fits so well into that category, yet here he sits. Rudy is in a home with four other dogs, large and small, and gets along and plays with everyone. He is in a home with children whom he ADORES. Since Rudy has been in his foster home, he has learned how wonderful toys and rawhides are and can be found frolicking around with them when he fails to entice a playmate. Rudy stays in the laundry room closed off by a baby gate when his foster family has to leave and simply needs to be told "go to your room" and in he goes to lie on his dog bed and wait patient for our return. Rudy has since nailed house training which has earned him the privilege of not sleeping all by himself at night in the laundry room, but he gets to sleep in the "big bed" in the bedroom (all the other dogs sleep on the floor so he is rather entitled in this regard). Speaking of sleeping, Rudy is quite the character when in bed. He loves to snuggle up next to you at night by curling up by your feet, but throughout the night sneaks his way up and will often steal your pillow or decide he needs to be a little closer and share it. Rudy is quite vocal in his sleep as well. He is a moaner, but will also bark and growl and it's very entertaining to say the least. Rudy is very clown-like and has a very entertaining personality period. Whether it's because he has the spontaneous rips around the house or he decides you are not paying enough attention to him while watching TV and he will demand your attention by barking at you obnoxiously and trying to take little nips at you until you give in. On the other hand, Rudy is not an obnoxious dog AT ALL. He loves taking long naps throughout the day, moaning away on his dog bed or chasing and barking and growling at something in his dreams. Rudy is still a puppy and still requires training. He has been known to pick up the random shoe but drops it immediately when told "NO" and substituted with a toy. Rudy can act shy at times, but it appears to be a characteristic of whatever breed is in him. The one thing that Rudy is without a doubt is a home body. While he enjoys walks, he absolutely DOES NOT like car rides. He is quite the anxious little guy when he is taken from what he feels is his "safe home sweet home". Perhaps it's a sign of the past he has had in his short little life, which at times gives the impression that it hasn't been so good, or that people haven't always been that nice to him. Anxiety gets the best of Rudy in the car and he gets car sick. He is absolutely MISERABLE and really needs to travel in a crate if need be or you will have a mess. Rudy went to an adoption event and was equally miserable for the entire three hours. He just wanted to go home. He was the most pathetic, uninterested, miserable looking puppy it's no wonder he was passed over. In stark contrast is the bubbly, fun-loving, goofy, well-behaved boy he is at home. So, if you have been searching for the "perfect" puppy, you really need not look any further. That being said, at this point his foster family is quite attached to this little goof so only the most "perfect" family need call to inquire about adopting him. Rudy has waited a long time and he is a very good boy and he deserves nothing but the best - a family that is going to be committed to him, committed to helping him become the best dog he can grow up to be, and committed to providing him the very best for his entire lifetime. I don't know all that this little guy went through prior to coming to our foster home, but for such a young guy it must've been significant. I want nothing but the absolute best for Rudy from this point forward. He has been vaccinated and neutered. His adoption fee is $225.00. If you think Rudy might be the one you've been searching for, please call Jodi at 630-978-7323.
