My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JAKE is a 3 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 52 pounds. Jake was a stray to the shelter. He has a non-contagious skin condition that has caused bald patches. The shelter vet did skin scrapings and no mites were found. They also checked Jake's thyroid and results were normal. The shelter vet assumed allergies and put Jake on D/D food, some medications and medicated baths twice weekly. His fur is growing back and he's looking much better. Jake is wonderful with people and does well with other dogs. From the transporter: What a sweet boy! He just needs some TLC and he'll be a great addition to someone's family! From the vet: Nice boy! Jake is from the country and has no exposure to big cities. Placement is limited to single family stand alone homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. He is approved for kids 10+.

Update (12/29): Jake is a fabulous guy! He is settling in and his fosters are getting to know him very well. He is definitely a country guy and enjoys a more rural setting where he can run, jump and play to his heart's content. The thing he loves most is FETCH! He is a wonderful fetcher and greatly enjoys twice daily fetch sessions. He is totally crate trained, but shouldn't have crate bedding as he will chew it. Appropriate chew toys are great for Jake and he really enjoys nylabones. He was initially not that great on leash but has made huge strides and is quickly learning to heel, he does not pull and is currently not using a harness and does well. He is very underweight and still needs to gain, he is being fed three times a day which he enjoys. He is still undergoing weekly medicated baths and his skin is looking better and better but this may be something his new owner will have to keep up with. He is a quick learner and will benefit from an owner with patience and the desire to take him to an obedience class to continue with his training. He does not seem to be the type that would enjoy jogging with his owners but would love to hike and have I mentioned fetch?! This guy will blossom into a stunning, and wonderful guy in the right home.

Update (12/28): Jake is being bathed with his medicated shampoo and is looking very handsome. He was pretty much a sweetheart throughout the bath, even allowing his foster mom to lift his feet so she could lather all the crevices. Though initially he was a bit hesitant at the stairs, he is doing stairs like a champ now. Jake has been on a few walks and is good on the leash and doesn't pull but zigzags a bit. He is very sweet and friendly, and is working on putting on some needed weight.

Update (12/24): Jake's doing splendidly, has totally integrated into the household. He seems to be settled well, and is happy and feels at home. He's still a bit unsure about stairs, but his foster mom has been working with him on that and feels a breakthrough is near. The regular walks and exercise sessions chasing his ball and frisbee have worked wonders. Jake has become a totally laid back puppy.
