Big Daddy's Story...
4yo Red Merle Australian Shepherd, super sweet

Big Daddy is our superhero!

In early July of this year CARS was contacted about an Australian Shepherd and Australian Shepherd Mix that were abandoned in southern Missouri. CARS immediately took action to help. What we found were two very sweet, very well behaved and handsome boys.
The boys were dirty, covered in ticks and fleas and grossly matted. A trip to our Vet was our top priority. In less than 24 hours we received the blood results.
Big Daddy was positive for Heartworms.
Thankfully we have an amazing Vet and foster home who helped Big Daddy on the road to recovery. Big Daddy finished his heartworm treatments in October and is officially off medical hold! You did it Big Daddy...wooohoooo!
Big Daddy has every great trait in an Aussie you could ask for. He is handsome, smart, loyal, friendly, fun and velcro.
He is just learning to play fetch with his foster siblings and do the fun and silly things an Aussie should be allowed to do!
He loves his foster brothers and sister, meeting people, going on car rides, long walks, playing outside with his foster siblings and being loved.  Big Daddy loves his time with his human. He needs to get in those snuggles and who can resist with those gorgeous amber eyes looking up at you.  Bath time and brushing? Oh yes please......let me stretch out so you can brush my whole body :)
Big Daddy knows his basic commands: sit, stay, off and recall (comes when called). He does not need a crate but will use one.  He is not destructive but has been caught a few times taking clean laundry and swinging it around for entertainment.
Big Daddy is a handsome 4 year old Red Merle (with a tail) weighing 60lbs. He is up to date on all his vaccinations: Rabies, Bordetella and Distemper. He has been receiving monthly preventatives of Heartgard and Nexgard. Big Daddy is neutered. A follow up blood test will be due in March 2016 that will be covered by CARS at our Rescue Vet in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
Big Daddy has a long beautiful life ahead of him. This superhero will make an amazing companion for some lucky family/person.
He has not been tested with small children or cats. Big Daddy is not a fan of motorcycles or diesel pick-up trucks.
Sorry but no Apartments, Condos or yards that are not fully fenced will be considered for Big Daddy.
*Did we mention the adorable blue eyed Aussie Mix found with Big Daddy is his son, Junior. * Junior is healthy and living the great life with his forever family!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Big Daddy, a St. Louis Australian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Shepherd for sale in St. Louis, or seeking a Australian Shepherd dog from a breeder in St. Louis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St. Louis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St. Louis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Shepherd breeders who help with Australian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St. Louis paves the way for another one to be saved.
