Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Name: Rosabelle
Breed: Bichon Frise x Maltese
Age: Senior
Location: Connecticut
Coat Length: Medium
Gender: Female
Size when grown: Small
Weight: 16.4 lbs
Level of blindness: Totally
Cause of blindness: Unknown, but one eye has Glaucoma
General health: Rosabelle is totally blind and is hearing impaired. She has two deformed front paws and her front legs are shorter than her hind legs. She is taking 2 drops a day for the glaucoma in her left eye. She is heartworm negative and her blood panel and urinalysis were very good. The vet believes that Rosabelle may have been born with deformed paws.
She will be getting her microchip on Dec. 1, 2015 when she returns to the vet for a follow up visit.
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with kids: Other (unknown)
Good with cats: Yes
Information
Rosabelle is a very sweet dog. She has a good disposition and is very loving. She likes to sit on your lap or next to you on the couch.
She is being house trained and has just learned how to go up the stairs on the back porch. She doesn't seem to be familiar with going outside, but that may be because of the trouble with her paws. She limps rather than walks and at times it is necessary to carry her, for instance, if I am taking her in the car or going up and down a flight of stairs.
Rosabelle is hearing impaired, but does hear you when you whistle and when you clap your hands. She also hears you opening food bags. She is a very good eater and loves her treats. Rosabelle gets very excited at dinner time, but not in an aggressive way, she just looks forward to eating. She will try to steal food from Stuart, her chihuahua friend, but she is never aggressive. She just tries to help Stuart clean his plate.
She is loved by everyone who has met her because of her gentle disposition. Her blindness does not stop her from exploring the house. She is curious and I believe that she likes to be around people. She will go in her crate, but prefers that the door is open. We have to work on this. Rosabelle has adjusted very well and appears to be flexible with people and her environment. I think that she would do better in an adult household rather than with small children.
