My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET TOTA -

TOTA's update from Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc:

This is our very special girl from the streets of Mexico that had firecrackers tied to her back. She is a Standard Dachshund / German Shepherd mix and 22 lbs. While she was burnt badly at the time, she now has completely healed and is doing well. She is learning to trust daily and is very smart. She loves her ex large wire crate filled with lots of blankets’ and chews on her bully sticks. She likes this safe place. While doing so much better, Tota is still a little leery, but tries hard to trust and is learning to love. We keep her away from other dogs here at the rescue - it’s a bit too much chaos here - but when she ran the streets of Mexico, her best friend was a male Standard Dachshund so we think she would do well with a neutered male dog. This sweet little girl has suffered so terribly...but she is doing much better and we know that it’s time to let her go and find her new forever family that will love and cherish her, continue her training and make her feel safe again.

Here is Tota's back story:

My name is Tota and I just turned 2 on December 31, 2015. I’m a female standard dachschund - german sherpherd mix and weighed 18.2 lbs on December 29, 2015. When I was only 2 months old I was hiding under my foster Mom’s car terrified from the night before when some people had taped fireworks to my backside and lit them. I was very badly injured and it hurt a lot. My foster Mom took me to the vet immediately where I was treated and cared for. Today, I have healed completely except for a few remaining beauty marks. I’m a very happy girl now that I’m safe and secure, but I am still quite timid around new people. I am hoping that someone out there wants to love me enough to have me for their very own friend!

Tota experienced a lot of trauma as a young pup and as a result, needs to be the one and only child in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) so that she can fully benefit from your tender loving care and positive attention. She may do well with a quiet, neutered male dog about her size as a companion.

Like all Dachshunds, Tota is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, Tota needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give Tota a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
