My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stunning? Yep, I am Gunnar, a stunning red Doberman but, do not love me because I am so handsome, love me because you believe in second chances. You see, my foster parents think that I have been on my own for a while, and it is probable that even when I did belong to someone I didn’t ever live in a house. I am in a foster home with children the ages of 9 and 15 and another large male dog that I love to play with! There are also some cats lurking here somewhere but my foster mom says I am not allowed to play with them or even see them because I have quite a big prey drive. I had to do that to survive, but despite that I do not demonstrate any food aggression with my foster parents and I am learning to take a treat gently even though I really love them and I want to gobble them up! Since I have been on my own for a bit, I am having to learn the structure and rules of living in a house, and I will need you to be a strong leader so I can continue to learn. The reward will be my unconditional love because I have so much to give! I have learned to sleep in a crate at night and during the day when my family is at work, take walks on a leash, and respond to human guidance. I have also learned to play with a toy and chew on a bone! I never even knew these things existed!!!! I watch my canine brother and take lots of cues from him. The very best part is that I learned almost immediately to love and trust my foster family. I am very sweet and docile (and playful), and I love sitting next to my humans and having them pet me and touch me. In true Doberman fashion, I will lean on you when I am standing next to you, and cross my paws when I lie down. Will you let me lean on you and continue to provide me the structure and strong leadership I need? Do you believe in second chances?

Gunnar should not be in a house with cats. As noted above, he is in a foster home with a large non-aggressive male dog and has done very well. It is unknown how he would do with smaller dogs. An active family, or fenced-in yard would be the most appropriate for this young, strong boy.

Gunnar is a male/n Doberman born ~January 2014. He is crate trained.
