About Megan from her Foster Mom:
Megan is a great dog, and was rescued from a high intake shelter in rural Eastern KY. She is about 2 years old and 65#. She is full grown. Megan is very friendly and outgoing - she has encountered children and strangers and simply licks them and wags her tail in enthusiasm. She gets along well with other dogs, even her foster mom's 9# Chihuahua, who she plays with all the time. Megan likes to 'test' other dogs to see if they are dominant, but she has NEVER been aggressive and has NEVER attempted to start a fight with another dog. Megan would do great in a home with other dogs and children, but she would prefer a home with NO CATS.

Megan is a bit of a goof ball and can be somewhat energetic. She enjoys playing very much. She does tire quickly though and then likes to get comfortable by curling up at your feet for a good rest. She's playful and fun, but at the same time, she enjoys relaxing and getting affection and attention. Megan is fully vetted, heartworm and parasite free, spayed and up to date on all her vaccinations. If you would like more information on Megan, have questions about her, or would like to inquire about adoption, please contact Advocate 4 Animals, Inc at . Thank you!

About The Way Home Rescue Alliance, Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

The Way Home Rescue Alliance (TWHRA) is a small 501(c)3 non-profit with the common goal of saving animals from high intake, high kill shelters in rural Kentucky that would otherwise be euthanized due to overcrowding. Many of these death row animals are placed in loving foster homes until they are adopted through TWHRA and go to their new forever home. In addition, we also network with regional, northeastern, and even Canadian rescue groups in order to save more animals from these high intake shelters than what we could accommodate through our own adoption program. We also support legislation that improves on Kentucky's animal welfare laws, in addition to being strong advocates of spaying and neutering dogs and cats.

TWHRA is always in need of volunteers. There are several way one can contribute. Ways to volunteer include, but are not limited to: 1) Fostering an animal, 2)Transporting animals to rescue, 3) Assisting at adoption events, 4) Assisting with fundraising efforts, 5) Rescue coordinating. If you would like to learn more about volunteering, or for a "Volunteer Application", please email .

If you don't have the time to devote to volunteering, monetary donations and/or sponsorships are a tremendous help in assisting TWHRA in our efforts!

Monetary donations are primarily used by TWHRA to address any immediate/unforeseen major medical needs an animal coming out of the shelter may have. If you would like to make a secure tax-deductible monetary donation, please go to and click on the "Donate" button at the bottom of the page to make a donation via Paypal. If you prefer to make a donation by check, please email for directions on how to do so.

Sponsorship offers are used to help secure rescues for the the animals currently in the shelter that are scheduled to be euthanized. When someone offers sponsorship, the sponsorship amount is then attached to an animal in urgent need at the shelter, and that animal, with its sponsorship, is shared with our network of approved rescues. Many times, the sponsorship serves as an additional incentive for a rescue to step up to save an animal. These funds can be used to assist with the vetting the rescue will get performed on the animal when it comes out of the shelter, to prepare the animal to go through their adoption program. The sponsorship may also be used to board an animal if it needs a place to stay temporarily while transport is arranged from the shelter to the receiving rescue. If you are interested in sponsoring a shelter animal in need of rescue, please email .

Other items may also be donated to help in our efforts. Our wish list includes: 1) Pet crates (dogs/cats - all sizes), 2) Quality dog/cat food, 3) Dog/cat toys and treats, 4) Dog/cat collars and leashes, 5) Blankets - all sizes.
If you are interested in making a donation, please contact .

Come Meet Our Pets...

The Way Home Rescue Alliance is not a shelter with a central location. Our animals for adoption are all in foster care in the Central Kentucky area. TWHRA is open to out of state adoptions if we feel the applicant is a good fit for the animal. For more information on one of our pet's for adoption, please email the contact person noted in the animal's description.

Our Adoption Process...

Each TWHRA pet has been thrown away at least once. Pets are not disposable just because your life has changed. Before you decide to bring a pet into your home, make absolutely sure that it will be a lifetime commitment. When our pets leave us we want them to go to their forever home. By adopting a pet you are not only helping the pet you adopt, but also others needing to come into our Rescue.

To adopt a furry friend an adoption application must be completed and approved, and a home visit performed. Once approved, there is an adoption contract to be signed plus an adoption donation paid. The adoption donation covers the cost of vetting the animals in our care.
