My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Northern California Weimaraner Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Please visit www.norcalweimrescue.org to fill out our online Adoption Application

JAX, 3 y/o neutered male blue Weimaraner. Jax is a beautiful, active, sweet, persistent, affectionate, and entertaining young Weimaraner. He needs to keep busy with a lot of exercise and fun games such as Fetch! We would love to see him enrolled in obedience, agility and/or nose work classes. Jax enjoys the training process as it means treats and attention! Jax will not do well in a home where his people do not enjoy being active outdoors, but if you are looking for a companion to ensure you get out on long walks, hikes or runs, Jax will help you with that! Jax gets along with other dogs, male or female and he would be really happy to have a dog buddy with whom he can play chase and tumble and run all over the yard! Jax does not like being left alone, so he will need a dog buddy and a secure yard when his people are gone. He does not mind sleeping in a crate, but panics if left in one when no one is home. He has a strong prey drive, so no cats. Jax pays no mind to children in public, and was good with the prior owner's 4 y/o niece who visited often, but given his size, energy level and strength he will be placed in a home with children if age 15 or over.
Jax will do best living with people familiar with the sporting dog temperament, which requires consistent, non-negotiable leadership (“no means no”), to which Jax responds well. He loves to sleep with anyone in the house who will let him - he is a wonderful cuddler! He will counter surf (so put your food away!) Jax knows “sit” and is learning new commands, but needswork on his recall. Jax is good with strangers dropping in, though he'll give an intense bark to alert you when they are approaching. Regarding his health - Jax got sick just after we rescued him and
was diagnosed stress colitis. He recovered in a couple of weeks and has not been symptomatic since. However, while figuring out what made him sick, we discovered one blood level and one urine level that were out of normal range. In response, we worked with a UC Davis trained specialist and methodically went through every diagnostic test recommended to rule out every condition that might lead to these values. Every test result was negative for the bad stuff and “normal” everywhere else, and he continues to appear healthy. All his vet records and test results will be provided, and the vet has offered to consult with the adopter’s vet to explain some of the tests that were done. Jax is on an antibiotic to treat a suspected kidney infection as the answer to the urine/blood values mentioned above. He is neutered, micro-chipped, and lepto, lyme’s and heart worm negative (on heart
worm preventative). He is current on all vaccines. We are hopeful Jax will find a home soon so he can get to know his people and get started on his new life! He is in a foster home in Bishop - transport to Reno or Bakersfield will be arranged for meet and greets. If you are interested in adopting Jax, please fill out an APPLICATION so you can meet him - you will love him!
