My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tito, a male, Ruby, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was released from a puppy mill in December, 2015. His date of birth is 4/29/13 and he weighs 13 pounds. He has been neutered and required a fairly extensive dental at that time. He is up to date on vaccinations. Unfortunately, he tested positive for heartworms and was treated using a protocol developed by an LSU vet using the antibiotic doxycycline. The treatment has been completed and he was retested using a very sensitive test which showed him to be very low positive for heartworms. Our vet thinks any heartworms that still may be present are dead or it may be due to some proteins still in the blood from the past infestation of heartworms that are causing the low positive. Tito has been receiving monthly ivermectin based heartworm prevention as well as monthly flea and tick prevention since he was rescued. His foster mom says he is a great bed buddy and a real sweetheart just as you would expect from this breed! Tito has had some bad luck since being rescued. He had an approved adopter in early 2016 and when he was taken in to get a health certificate for the transport, our vet discovered a small abscess on his side and he could not go. It took until November, 2016 to clear that abscess and we wanted to wait to make sure it was really gone before we relisted him as available for adoption. That abscess has not come back but now he has an abscess on his other side which we are treating. When that abscess is cleared he will be ready to go to his new adoptive home. Tito is not what we would consider a special needs dog but he has had a run of bad luck health wise so his new family will need to keep a watchful eye to make sure this little guy stays healthy. If you feel that you can give Tito the love and care he needs and would like to adopt Tito, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers.
