My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Darby, a beautiful five-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. She's an affectionate, loving girl with a medium energy level and house manners. She loves her squeaky toys, running around the yard, and is eager to go for walks and car rides. She does know some commands and is very smart and quick to learn, especially if you're offering a treat reward. Darby's early years were not happy ones, coming out of a domestic abuse situation in which she protected her owner. So she is nervous around new people and needs time to feel comfortable with them. She was also not well socialized with other dogs so has demonstrated fearfulness. Since coming to Lizzy's Lodge, Darby has begun to show more confidence with people and other dogs. She does connect with her person and seeks out that contact for petting and of course belly rubs. She is now less concerned about other dogs around her. Her leash manners are improving and she is very responsive to correction. She is quite comfortable in a crate. A calm home with a family that is gentle, patient and consistent with her will discover a wonderful , happy, snuggly girl. She needs to learn that her family will protect her and she will be safe with them. We do recommend she be the only dog in a home without children. We wouldn't think she would do well with cats--she is a Jack Russell after all.
