Dexter is a delightful 1-year-old boy who was found running loose with his litter mate, south of Houston. When no one claimed either of them at the shelter, HBHR offered to help find them new homes. At 13+ inches and 24 pounds, this compact beagle is now ready to find himself a place of his own.
Dexter has discovered the joy of playing with a pack. He is getting quite good at chase and has been taking wrestling lessons in hope of besting the other young sprout in the pack! He especially enjoys rope pulls and chew bones. Dexter is still a little leery of squeaky toys.
House training has gone well and Dexter rarely has an accident. He sleeps through the night on a dog bed or at times the ‘big’ bed with his people. He learned to use the dog door and enjoys the freedom that it allows him. Dexter’s previous life must have involved long hours in a crate, because he hates being kenneled. He will destroy anything in the crate with him and becomes so anxious that it was feared that he would hurt himself. His manners have been good when left loose in the house for a few hours and he is able to avoid the dreaded crate! He does not get into anything that does not belong to the dog pack. His anxiety over being left behind is eased when he has his canine companions to cuddle with.
Dexter has a quiet, gentle nature and is very loving. He gives kisses so sweet that you will think he is a real lover! Dexter deserves a family that will be home more often than not, and will give him all the love and attention he craves. He will do best with a canine companion for those hours when everyone must be gone from home.
