My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET WINSTON -

Meet the newest member of the tiny puppy brigade, Mr. Winston, a six week old, black and tan, wirehair Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. This fuzzy little cutie is almost ready to meet his new, forever family. He's so excited, he has already started his baby shots and been wormed. He even sent us a note at the rescue:

'Hello Mama Jenell this is Winston. I am doing very well, I eat dog food now and am trying to eat more kibble instead of canned. I love to play and sleep. I am working on going outside but it is so BIG out there and I get scared. Mama Teri comes out with me and I am trying to be good. I am learning how to be in a crate; it's going slow but, again, I am learning. I love playing with my foster brothers and sisters especially the big ones; I think I am tougher then all of them, LOL. Mama Teri says probably another week or so and I should be old enough be adopted. I will need a home with someone who is home most of the day as I have a little Tummy and need to eat four times a day. I also have a very small bladder so I need to go out often too. I am too little to climb stairs so someone needs to have a small ramp for me to go in and out or they can carry me. I love playing with balls and carry them around with me. So goodbye for now.'

SO...are you ready to meet him? As Winston himself told us, he will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. His new family will have to agree to bring him back at 5 months to ensure he is neutered.

Like all Dachshund puppies, Winston is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, Winston needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give Winston a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
