Poochi is a 3-year-old Shipoo who has experienced some turmoil in his life. He was recently surrendered to Animatch by a commercial breeder who had him for a short time; before that we have no history. Poochi is extremely hyper and stressed; in fact, he spins in circles a good part of the day. We feel he has been confined too many hours in his life and this was the only way he was able to relieve some of the isolation, stress and boredom. Crates/cages are a wonderful training tool but dogs are not meant to spend most of their life in one. Poochi is on medication and we hope that a combination of meds and some behavioural modification will help. No doubt, his struggles are not over. Poochi needs to experience what many dogs take for granted – daily walks, sniffing around the neighborhood, retrieving a Frisbee or a ball. He also needs mental stimulation – outlets where he can use his energy for something other than spinning. When he is busy and focused, the behaviour stops. Although he gets along with other dogs, he can be possessive of his toys. When Poochi settles down, he simply loves cuddles, belly rubs, and butt scratching. Toilet training is a work in progress but he is improving every day. An experienced guardian is required, preferably one who believes in training with positive reinforcement. Since this little guy is so agile, in time he may even be a great little agility dog. If you have the patience and are ready for a challenge, Poochi may be the dog for you. Please fill in the Adoption Form if you feel that you are the one to make a difference is this little guy’s life.
