My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clarice was listed on Craigslist a little while back by her former people - who wanted to give her away for free to any takers interested in a 5 year old Great Pyrenees with a torn eyelid. Needless to say, Clarice ended up in the local shelter where one of our volunteers was able to get to her before her time there was up.

Clarice came to us a bit of a mess. She was thin and filthy and had burrs and matts buried deep in her coat. From what we can tell, Clarice likely spent her life living outside on a chain. Given the extent of both her old and new injuries, it seems most likely that Clarice was abused in her past life. We do not know what caused the tear in her eyelid but our wonderful vet was able to fix it.

Healing eyelid aside, Clarice has recovered from her former life of neglect beautifully. She now weighs in at a healthy 83 lbs. She has blossomed in to a uber cuddly, devoted gal who follows her foster mom around from room to room. Clarice loves attention, loves to get pet and is what we would dub a "velcro dog." When she is comfortable, Clarice is easy-going, calm and quiet however she is on the shyer side and in the past has spooked easily in the presence of large men. Clarice adores her foster mom and is a perfect angel with the two toddlers she shares her foster home with. She has warmed up to her foster dad as well however winning over her heart and trust took time and any prospective adopters should be willing and able to provide the same to Clarice during her transition in to their home.

Clarice has nice indoor manners and mastered the art of pottying outside in record time. She is great with other dogs, totally fine with cats and overall extremely easy to care for and to love. Clarice prefers her dogs like she prefers to live her life, which is to say she enjoys calm dogs far more than hyper ones. Clarice walks well on the leash and enjoys to take long strolls at a slow, plodding pace. She responds to basic commands and can be crated just fine - though she does not much care for the crate and is too lazy to be bothered with anything in the home aside from napping.

Clarice's ideal home is with a calm, doting family who is around more often than not. Clarice is an extremely gentle, loving girl who deserves a forever family who will love and care for her (indoors) until the end of her days.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please apply online, at http://www.bigfluffydogs.com/online-app.php. Our main website, www.bigfluffydogs.com has more information about us and the rescue process. NOTE TO EMAILERS FROM ADOPT-A-PET: WE DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL INQUIRIES WITHOUT AN APPLICATION. WE REGRET WE CANNOT RESPOND TO EVERY EMAIL, BUT UNLESS YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, WE DO NOT KNOW YOU EXIST. All known information about an individual dog is provided in it's listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters must understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be. Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for:1.) Flexible schedules for potty training. Puppies can only "hold it" for one hour per month of age (ex. a 4 month old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break).2.) Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old, to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise.3.) Socialization: The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home.4.) Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded tenfold, for years to come. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy.Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time consuming, and can be expensive. All Dogs Require:Supervision with children and obedience training. Adopters that want to have good dogs must be prepared to put the time and effort into training a dog. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well trained, well socialized dog is more than worth the effort put in to get them there.
