Gwendolyn is a five-and-a-half-year-old female Cattle Dog/German Shepherd mix who is a stunning dog with a soft disposition. She is gentle, loves her pet beds, and enjoys a good belly rub while giving appreciative licks. By nature, she is a bit tentative, (which means, taking things on with caution, or sometimes startled) but will adjust following the lead of another dog or a patient companion. She is good on a leash, but completely happy at home lying next to her master. As she is a lower energy dog, she would not be a good fit for an avid hiker or runner, and she also in not interested in playing chase, or playing ball, or playing with toys. But if you are interested in a calm, gentle companion and a dog that will take enjoyable walks, then Gwendolyn may be your girl. She is completely dog friendly and human friendly, and would not jump up onto people. Gwendolyn seeks a quiet, calm household.

Gwendolyn is fully potty-trained and non-destructive in the house. One would be able to leave her alone and return unworried either in a large, secured crate, or loose, but she MUST be an inside dog (we do not adopt dogs to be put outdoors. All dogs must be indoor dogs with outdoor access for potty, or, for enjoyment at their own will and leisure). Gwendolyn loves nothing more than to just sit with you all day on her favorite pet bed, in the same room as you are working in. Her security if you are not home is being inside on her favorite bed and she will not move. She is an incredibly easy dog to love and have in your home, once she adjusts to the new place; she is a very low maintenance dog.

Gwendolyn was originally rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter. She entered the shelter from a hoarding situation where she had lived among many dogs. She was then pulled from the shelter in early 2014 by our rescue, where she lived in a small pack at the rescue’s main location and eventually went on to one of the rescue’s foster homes. She was then adopted by a young, professional couple who lived in an apartment with another dog, a small male terrier mix. However, a year-and-a-half later, she was returned to the rescue because the couple was separating. Apparently, neither of them could keep the dog which is troubling from a rescuer’s perspective and always represents a hardship when any dog is returned. Note that Gwendolyn was not returned by way of anything that she did. We are sad that she had to be uprooted from her home, her people, and her doggie pal. She has presently settled nicely in her old foster home, and we will attempt to place her once again, however, we will be strategic in that upon an initial adjustment to the new home, and a follow up report from the adopters, that the adopters can make a solid commitment.

The home we seek for Gwendolyn is with well-established dog loving people that has at least one other welcoming dog in the home. Gwendolyn has always lived with other dogs and has never been an only dog. The other dog in the home gives her some comfort and also helps guide her behavior in the new home. We may make an exception if the people are young retirees or work from home and are patient “homebodies.” Gwendolyn is a fantastic dog that is completely non-reactive to other dogs and enjoys having another life around but at the same time is not overly needy and can even be occasionally “aloof,” showing independence. She is calm, endearing and sweet, and again, is low maintenance - an “easy dog” who also enjoys walking on the leash and is easy to walk even with the other dog.

Gwendolyn is spayed, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped.
