Bouncy little 14 pound Jasper is a 9 month old bundle of puppy energy. He is super intelligent and knows commands such as sit, shake, lay down and drop (in trade for a good treat).
Though still very much a puppy, Jasper seems to like to be obedient and acts like he is proud of himself when he does what you command.
He is very playful and loves squeaky toys. He is a high energy tyke and all boy for sure! He has velvety black fur that is luscious.
If you are looking for a dog who is very agile and quick, a dog who is so smart that he can learn anything, a dog who might be a good agility or fly ball candidate, you should come meet our Jasper.
Jasper has long slender legs that carry him like the wind. He sure can run and jump!
Jasper was adopted this past November (born 4/22/15) by a family with small children. They found that he can be nervous and protective around strangers (though fine with everyone here at the shelter, including new people), other dogs and kids. When he is uncertain, he can be reactive, and he has nipped at the kids and does not seem to be good with many other dogs.
We really think that a pup this young should naturally enjoy other dogs so it may be that Jasper was separated from other dogs too early and never learned his doggie social skills. If he views kids as peers, he may think he needs to put them in their place like he wants to do with unfamiliar dogs.
We just tried Jasper with a young, very sweet and submissive female dog here at the kennel and he decided that she was a wonderful roomie and really likes to play with her!
Jasper is really going to excel in an adults only home in which everyone practices the nothing in life is free philosophy. He needs a family that has a kind but take charge approach, a family of alpha humans who will guide him and teach him appropriate self confidence and social graces. It is very important that Jasper learns that he is not in charge but rather the people in his life are in charge instead.
He is so very ready to learn and be taught what to do. This smart boy obeys the commands he knows in a snap and is a willing and able pupil. He has great eye contact and his eyes shine with intelligence.
Jasper is cute as can be and such a wonderful, fun boy most of the time. As he learns more confidence and social graces and gets a little older, he should develop into a well rounded boy with more self control around things he is uncertain about.
He keeps his kennel clean and should be easy to housetrain if he is not already housetrained.

Please note that we do not ship animals. We also require a home visit before finalizing any adoptions so preference is given to applicants within a 90 mile range. You will be required to come to High Point, NC to meet/pick up your new pet.
