My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET DIETER the Dashing Dachshund -

DIETER is a sweet, silly, loving, energetic, and funny little guy. He is an 18 month old, 13 lb, Wire-haired Brindle Dachshund...He is very rare and truly very special! Due to a neurological issue at birth, DIETER is completely deaf, but as you can read from his foster mom's report below, this little fella is all dog and will make the perfect family companion. Let's help him find his forever family and get him home.

Deiter is a happy, friendly little guy. He has never met a human he doesn't like, regardless of age or gender. He can be a little timid with new people, but doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

He is house broken and crate trained. He uses a pet door and loves to be outside, warming his little bones in the sun. When he's tuckered out, he may ask to come into your lap for a good long snooze, or else will choose to sack out in his own bed.

Deiter could do well with a gentle, spayed female doxie as a companion as he takes his cues from the behavior of the other dogs. Plus he loves to play, and having a playmate might be a positive way to discharge some of his puppy energy.

This is a very special dog and will make someone a very happy pet owner. He makes us laugh every single day.

FROM ODR, INC:

DIETER will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children, who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.

Like all Dachshunds, DIETER is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, DIETER needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the vibrations that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give DIETER a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
