Hey there everybody, my name is Gunner and I'm a two year old black and tan coonhound mix. My story is like many other rescued pups - I was found left abandoned on the side of a country road. I was found skin and bones looking for food and shelter. The Hancock County Animal Shelter took me in and has been nursing me back to good health. I'm lucky that I'm here still and I'm looking for a second change at living a happy life filled with fun, energy, and love. Even though things have been rough for me, I'm still very trusting of others and love to be around people.

I am an active and happy pup that loves to play in the shelter yard with my pup friends. I do need some training, so I am looking for a family that has the time and energy to leash and house train me and help me to learn basic commands. Because of that I might do best in a home without small children for now until I learn to do all that better, but after time I'm sure I'll be good with even little kids too! I love having pup friends around, but I don't really like being around cats. I hope that's okay!

I am neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped, but I am heartworm positive so I would need treatment for it to get to perfect health again. Please don't let that deter you because if you want to adopt me then I'll be able to start my treatment and begin my path back to good health - it will just take a little extra help on your end and then I'll be 100% again. In return, I'll give you love, companionship, and lots of doggie kisses! :)

I am currently in Hancock County, Mississippi, but the good folks at Animal Rescue Front will bring me up north to you and the trip is included in the adoption fee. If you are interested in taking me into your forever home, please fill out the adoption form here:

Thanks for checking out my page - I hope I get to meet you (and love you) soon!

About Animal Rescue Front, Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

ARF started in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and because of the shocking treatment we saw many animals in the Deep South endure and the extremely high kill rates in their shelter systems we have stayed committed to helping animals with a focus in the state of Mississippi. Many of these wonderful animals would be killed in a shelter or abandoned outside if not for our continued efforts.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoptions fees are based on the state you live in. If you are a Massachusetts resident we are required by the Dept. of Agriculture to quarantine for a minimum of 48hrs. the animal you adopt from us. The cost for this quarantine is $120.00 per animal. Our fees are as follow:

Adult dogs 13 months to 5 years - MA resident $475, all others $425.00.
Adult dogs +5 years of age - MA resident $375, all others $325.00
Puppies 12 months and younger - MA resident $550, all others $500.00.

If pre-adoption neutering is not an option for your pup, a refund of $70 will be given to the adopter when proof of neuter is presented to us. Our adoption donation covers the transport to New England and exceptional vetting from our local veterinary teams down south, and local quarantining in MA. As well we reimburse our local rescues down south so they can continue their life saving mission. We do require you to fill out an application and provide a vet reference, and a home inspection may be requested. Every animal we adopt MUST be spayed/neutered and we reserve the right to request proof of this. Our adoption application is on our website at:

Thanks for rescuing!

Please note - we will not adopt a puppy to anyone who is not willing and committed to ensuring their new family member never reproduce. Spaying and neutering your pet contributes to efforts to reduce unwanted and homeless animals in the United States and your animal will be healthier. Our adoption fees are nonrefundable after 30 days. If for whatever reason your adoption is not suitable to you or your adoptee we require the animal be surrendered to us.
