My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***We at PDR fully acknowledge that Yoda is ADORABLE and will elicit a strong emotional response in many people. To save us from a deluge of emails about this cutie we ask that anyone interested in Yoda read his bio carefully to ensure he will be a good fit for your family before applying or inquiring about him. Thanks!!***

Get ready to meet Yoda; a 3 year old French Bulldog & Boston Terrier mix. While he doesn’t quite possess any super powers, the combination of his ears curling outward as he cocks his head at you combined with the cutest under bite and watchful eyes that follow you everywhere definitely make him resemble his namesake. Just like in the movies, he is a small guy, weighing in at 33 pounds but don’t let that fool you! Yoda has considerable strength in that small body of his that allows him to jump all over the room and leap into the air for treats. To compliment his strong physique, Yoda has a black coat with some brown flecks mixed in and a white underside that has become increasingly silky and smooth since we started fostering him! When he is not ripping around the apartment after a toy or trying to gobble up as much food as possible, the lovable little guy dog is content to snore the day away while lying next to you, making sure to that you are always by his side!

Before Yoda started cuddling up to his new friends, he was abandoned at a shelter with his previous owner stating he wasn’t good with their children. Despite never showing signs of aggression in our care and preferring displays of affection, it is recommended that he go to a home with children over the age of 12 who can give him the attention he needs and play with him while understanding acceptable behaviour towards dogs in general.

On the other hand, Yoda is suitable for multiple types of homes. He is currently in an apartment with us and is already house trained, often letting out a soft bark at the door when he needs out. Even in the beginning, Yoda has never tried to ‘mark’ anything, both in the apartment and in the rest of the building with other dogs. He is even crate trained and can stay in for a few hours at a time with his bone, just be ready for all of the energy and joy he will have to see you again once you let him out!

In addition to thoroughly enjoying attention, Yoda loves his food and will eat almost anything if you let him. While he will refrain from eating your shoes, he will promptly inhale any food you drop onto the floor. In addition to his vacuum-like tendencies, he has a very endearing habit of sleeping with half of his tongue hanging out of his mouth, especially when he is tired. Yoda likes his walks and we take him out at least twice a day. He walks nicely alongside you and will respond to your commands while on the leash. Run with him and he’ll keep up with you but once he’s at home and tired out from his walk, he can turn into a couch potato. Furthermore, Yoda likes to be around people at all times and will become upset when your attention is focused on other things for a while; however, he doesn’t need much to be happy. All he wants is to be able to curl up next to you and he will calm right down. He has no problems being bathed or handled by people. On the odd occasion when he does not listen, just pull out the treats and he will do anything you want if there is food in it for him!

While Yoda is very good with other people, being around other dogs is an issue at the moment, but not one that cannot be corrected. Yoda has not been properly socialized with other dogs and will require training in that aspect to help him to be more comfortable around other furry friends. While he has shown some restraint at times, he will often become very tense and start to bark at other dogs. Being comfortable with other dogs will take some time for him to master but he is a fast learner and hopefully this issue can be resolved in the near future. As for cats, Yoda has not encountered any yet so it is difficult to say how he will react in this situation. We are looking for a home for Yoda where he will be the only pet and get all of the attention and love.

In terms of Yoda’s behaviour, he has had considerable training already; a previous owner must have invested quite a lot of effort into him. He knows a fair number of tricks, from being able to give you a high five, to dancing and even catching treats in midair, he can do an abundance of cute displays for food. He has a tendency to jump on you when he is particularly excited, particularly when you have been away for several hours and have just come home but promptly telling him to stay down before he jumps usually slows his charge to some extent. Otherwise, he is extremely well-behaved and will listen to all your commands, such as stay, sit, lay, and so on. He is also comfortable with you being around his food bowl when he is eating, even allowing you to put your hand in or pull the bowl away from him. He can still learn more though, so we do recommend that you continue with the obedience training.

This dog is free of any health issues; a recent trip to the vet confirmed a clean bill of health. Yoda is somewhat on the smaller side and quite lean so, as a result, he does not like the cold. He will need a sweater or coat when being taken for a walk on chilly days and potentially something on his paws to help with the cold and salt on the sidewalks. He is not a fan of the cold and much prefers indoor activity when it is cold outside.

Despite this being our first time fostering a dog and neither of having any prior experience living with a dog, we have both thoroughly enjoyed taking care of Yoda. He has been a perfect dog and we could not have asked for a better one to foster. He adapted to his new home within a day and just needs love and affection to be an amazing companion. It will be hard to see him go but he needs a forever home and, sadly, that is something that we cannot provide at this time. For the fortunate household that adopts him, you can be certain to have an affectionate companion that you will forever cherish and he will be sure to love you back with a warm, friendly nature that is matched by no other. We are looking for a family for Yoda that is familiar with French Bulldogs or Bulldogs in general as he very much has a Bulldog personality and can be stubborn. He is not a lazy dog and will need daily exercise so he needs someone who will commit to taking him for a good walk daily. We are looking for a family for Yoda that has previous dog experience and can work with him through training and socialization to overcome his dog anxiety. Yoda will need to attend dog school with his new family to help with his socialization and to establish a strong leader relationship with his new people. Do you think you just might be the match for him?
